NEW YEAR, BIGGER IMPACT

Day of Hope: Bringing Light to New Beginnings

Today marks a day of significance on our Ghana journey. It's our day to shine a beacon of hope in the lives of new mothers and their precious newborns. In Ghana, maternal and newborn health have been longstanding challenges. High maternal mortality ratios, a significant neonatal mortality rate, and limited access to adequate healthcare resources in certain communities highlight these challenges. Newborns and mothers, particularly in underprivileged areas, face the risks of inadequate care and limited resources.

Ghana, like many African countries, has faced challenges in maternal & newborn health. The maternal mortality ratio in Ghana is estimated at 310 deaths per 100,000 live births. This highlights the risks faced by women during childbirth. Approximately 29 out of 1,000 infants in Ghana don't survive their first month of life. Newborn mortality is a critical issue, and many of these deaths are preventable with proper care, nutrition, and resources.

Bringing Light to New Beginnings, our contribution:

Today, we extend our hands of support by donating baby clothes, supplies, and essential items to new mothers and their babies at the maternity ward. These donations signify more than just material goods; they symbolize care, compassion, and a commitment to improving the lives of these families.

Our mission is to create a brighter start for these newborns and their mothers. By providing necessities, we aim to alleviate some of the challenges they face during their most vulnerable moments. The items we bring, coupled with the warmth of our hearts, serve as a source of hope and comfort.

Embracing the New Year:

As evening falls, you have the freedom to enjoy your time as you wish. Take a moment to reflect on the profound impact we've made and the shared spirit of compassion that unites us. Whether you choose to explore more of Accra, immerse yourself in its vibrant nightlife, or simply savor the memory of your acts of kindness, this evening is yours to welcome the new year in your own unique way.

Be sure to prepare your luggage tonight, as tomorrow marks the beginning of our Sankofa Journey in Cape Coast, a path that will further enrich our understanding of Ghana's history and culture.

ANCESTORS WILDEST DREAMS

The Sankofa Journey to Cape Coast

Attire recommendation: White

Today marks the beginning of our transformative Sankofa Journey as we bid farewell to Accra and make our way to Cape Coast.

Our destination for the day is the Cape Coast Enslaved Dungeon, a poignant place with a history that resonates deeply. Built in 1482 by the Portuguese, it stands as the oldest European building in Sub-Saharan Africa. This Dungeon holds within its walls a profound and somber tale, a significant chapter in the tragic transatlantic enslaved African trade era.

Prepare your heart and mind for an emotionally intense experience. The Dungeon once confined enslaved Africans, awaiting the harrowing voyage on slave ships bound for the New World. Our tour takes us through the Male and Female dungeons, and we'll pass through the infamous "Door of No Return," a poignant symbol of an agonizing past.

To honor and acknowledge the resilience of those who passed through this harrowing history, then we participate in a traditional African naming ceremony. This ceremony is a powerful way to reconnect Diasporians with their ancestral Motherland. It's a moment of healing and restoration, recognizing the strength and spirit of those who came before us.

As we embark on a meaningful journey to our host Ghanaian village. We will be paying our respects to Village Chiefs and Queen Mothers, as we participate in a tradition that dates back centuries. We will start by pouring of libation, and the Right to Return: Atonement & Rituals Ceremony, where we officially restore you to the cultural and spiritual connections that were denied and stripped from us during the transatlantic slave trade.

The highlight of our visit to the village is the Sankofa ceremony, which includes a traditional naming rite ceremony and family integration. You will be welcomed home with a lot of fanfare, as the entire village comes together to celebrate your return with traditional drumming and dancing. As a gesture of appreciation, we will also present our adopted village with a donation.

In the evening, we will gather for our Farewell event, reflecting on our experiences and forging new connections with the community we have been fortunate to visit. This is a day that will leave a lasting impression on your heart and soul.

AFRICA'S WONDERS

Departing Cape Coast with a Visit to Kakum National Park

As we bid farewell to the captivating city of Cape Coast, our journey continues with a visit to the renowned Kakum National Park. Situated in the heart of the lush Central Region, this park offers a striking contrast to the emotionally charged experiences we've had in Cape Coast.

Kakum National Park is a sanctuary of natural beauty, providing a refreshing change of pace. It is renowned for its awe-inspiring canopy walkway, a remarkable feat of engineering that allows you to traverse the rainforest's treetops. As you take in the breathtaking views from above, you'll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the rainforest's diverse flora and fauna.

After our invigorating nature walk, we begin our journey back to Accra, where our unforgettable adventure in Ghana began. This drive offers a chance for reflection and to savor the memories you've created during this remarkable journey.

Our Ghanaian experience is drawing to a close, but there's still much to take in as we journey back to Accra. Get ready to relish the lush landscapes and vibrant culture once more as we make our way back to the capital.
