The golden Western Larch of the Bitterroot Mountains are a sight to behold! On this trip, we’ll embark on 3 guided day hikes and photography sessions to capture their beauty and majesty! Our hikes will take place in the Bitterroot National Forest and Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness, which are connected to the largest chunk of wilderness in the lower 48. Out here, crowds are non-existent. WE will be the crowd. Golden Fall colors, big mountains, cascading streams, and technicolor scenery all around.
The Bitterroot is known for being a rugged place! On this trip, we'll embark on 3 moderately challenging day hikes, each with at least 1000 ft of elevation gain. These hikes will take place at high elevation, around 7000 ft altitude. The names of the exact trails we will be hiking are not listed here for leave no trace purposes. You will be informed of them during the pre-trip planning meeting, 2 months prior to the trip.
Each of these three hikes will take place in montane forest landscapes, with plenty of pine trees of all kinds and a surprising amount of deciduous foliage underneath! As we hike up the trails, well take time to stop and photograph all that there is to see, including local rocks and fungi. Huckleberry plants will also be a sight to behold! They turn a crimson red in the fall!
Once we reach out destination on each hike, we'll take a break, eat lunch, filter water, share photos, and continue to get to know each other. Often times, the Larch like to live at the tops of these hikes. We'll be sure to take plenty of time to explore each grove of Larch and appreciate all the shapes and sizes they grow in.
At the conclusion of our hikes, we'll meet at the Little Smith Creek Ranch for and evening campfire and dinner. We'll share our best shots, relive memories, and share other stories.
