My son and I had a great experience. The instruction was excellent and transformative in terms of advancing our understanding about surfing and water as an element. This is super important to build a proper foundation as it will lead to a positive experience with surfing and water that can last a lifetime. If you’re planning a surf trip as a beginner or a pro-Jaco and Tortuga Surf Camp can provide it all! My son was fired up about catching his first waves which made it worth the trip by itself.

The guys at Tortuga Surf are amazing instructors. We had a blast surfing with them. We learned more in just a two hour class than any other surf instructions we have had previously at other locations. They are very knowledgeable and were so patient with both our kids (and us adults!). If you are planning on surf lessons in Jaco - Tortuga Surf is the place to go.

My wife, daughter and I took a private lesson with the Tortuga surf School. We all had a great time. Each of the coaches were helpful and adapted to the progression of each of us. We all ended up being able to surf as beginners halfway through the class! Good times!

We had a great time on our weeklong surf camp with Tortugas! Mike was super responsive and easy to coordinate with, and the apartment was comfortable and perfectly located for us and in a quiet neighborhood that was convenient to downtown. He gave great recommendations and helped us learn a lot about both surfing and Costa Rica. As beginners, surf in Jaco was a little big when we were there in June, but we always felt in good hands with our instructors (Laote and Justin). I particularly appreciated the 1:1 training as we got a lot of feedback and opportunities to catch waves. In addition to great instruction in the water, we really appreciated the dry land training components, such as balance exercises, and the apnea training. It was a well rounded approach that helped us build skills and comfort with all aspects of surfing.
