About this trip

Early Morning Option, Please choose Morning Alms Giving option and pay extra US$5/pax

Our guide will pick you up from your accommodation in the early morning at 5:00 am (March to October) / 5:30  am (November to February) and give you the fantastic opportunity to participate in the daily morning rituals of saffron-clad monks collecting offerings of Alms (ubiquitous sticky rice) from the faithful residents. This tradition is very unique in Laos, being the only Buddhist nation still preserving the procession.

MORNING

Pickup from your accommodation at around 8 am, we first visit the Morning Market, a lively street where locals shop for everything.

Next, head to the Wat Mai palace, built in 1788, known for its glorious bas-relief work, golden stencilling of its sim (assembly hall), and for the ritual cleansing of the Phra Bang during Lao New Year.

The Royal Palace, which is today the national museum and built by French colonialists between 1904-09, displays a lovely collection of the artefacts reflecting the richness of Lao culture.

Walk along the main Sisavangvong peninsula road and see a blend of Lao and French architectures,  pause at the early 18th-century Wat Sene, with its sweeping four-tiered roof, and then we visit the 16th-century magnificent Wat Xieng Thong, located at the end of the Luang Prabang peninsula, which is one of the towns most beautiful and richly decorated temples.

Wat Wisunarat, the oldest Buddhist temple dating to the 16th century, known for its large, watermelon-domed stupa.

In the end, we visit Mount Phousi that is a 100 m high hill in the centre of the old town, located on the peninsula between the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers. 328 steps to the top will be an enjoyable exploration of the sacred, gilded stupa Wat Tham. In the top of the hill, we enjoy the view over the heritage town.

We go back to city center or your accommodation at about 12:30.

Baci Ceremony (Evening option 7:00 pm-, Please choose Baci Ceremony option X 1 for your group. If you would like to have dinner show after Baci, please choose option Dance show X1 for your group, Dinner for your group size )

The Baci is a well-known traditional ritual and has its origins in the ancient customs of past generations. This ceremony is held for happy occasions like weddings, welcoming guests, Lao New Year, house warmings, home comings and other such occasion and has a deep meaning for Lao people, as well as for visitors to the country.

We will hold the Baci ceremony in the evening at a traditional rosewood house near royal palace. After a commentary from the guide, you will experience an hour-long ritual. Afterwards, we can have dinner there, and experience a music and dance performance. Or we can also end the tour after the ceremony.

Reviews

Overall we are enjoying the trip given the timeframe for us to walk round take pictures, exploring the places and the time explanation by our tour guide Phong who is very knowledgable and deserve big tip from us. Only two drawbacks highlighted. First will be because this is shared tour, there could be sometime a bit not comfortable in terms of jamming within the tour buddies around in small van and sometimes give me myself as tall guy a bit of inconvenient. Second my experience engaging with Manifa sales rep that non responsive of WhatsApp sometimes gives nerve racking until i need to make sure this tour is really covered especially when luckily we found the company location within old town location which nearby with our accommodation. But overall still like this itinerary tour.

What a day! We can’t thank Manila travel enough for this amazing experience! All of the guides, drivers, cooks and everyone else involved were very friendly and helpful. We felt very looked after on this trip. We visited a lovely village with friendly people, cycled through beautiful countryside, kayaked along the river, had a delicious lunch, spent time with elephants and visited Pak Ou caves. I would recommend this for fit people that enjoy an active tour. I slightly over estimated my physical abilities but allowances were made for me which I really appreciated. Thank you so much for a brilliant day that I will never forget.

We had an amazing 1/2 day trip. Waterfalls were beautiful and lovely to swim in. It was great to see the moon bears at the Save The Bears sanctuary. Enjoyed learning about Hmong culture from our village visit. We had a fantastic, knowledgeable and entertaining guide. Highly recommended.
