This was the trip of a lifetime and the reason was Paul Laurent. He has a genuine love of birds and nature. He can't get enough. We basically birder from before dawn until after dark. Everyday! He was very knowledgeable about all the Costa Rican species, biology, migration, and evolution. And He hired several guides who were a great addition and contributed speciality knowledge. Franklin Sanchez was outstanding. We also saw mammals and snakes/lizards.
Paul was patient and attentive to the guests. He cared about everyone and check to make sure everyone was settled, etc.
It was a lot! 330 species in 11 days!
Thanks Paul!
I got lucky and was the only person to show up on the day of the trip. Vicky was AWESOME! Her enthusiasm for birding and photography was contagious. 30 species on my life list and 1979 photos later and I am an avid birder now. And the icing on the cake was her taking me to a Bald Eagle nest where we observed and photographed a pair of majestic eagles doing what eagles do. I will be back!
An excellent trip. All the details taken care of, perfect accommodations, and just the right pacing. The local guides at Canopy are especially good. Highly recommended!
We had a wonderful time with Simon and our fellow travel companions at Canopy Camp! Lodging was comfortable, the food was excellent, and Simon's and Eliecer's guide services were top-notch! We highly recommend Venture Birding and Panama's Canopy Camp!
The food was outstanding, and abundant. OUr local guide made sure we had snacks for long mornings or afternoons. The two guides worked tirelessly to ensure we all got to see the birds. Harpy eagle on nest was amazing. The tent cabins were spacious and very comfortable. We also enjoyed the 3 species of monkeys, easily seen around the camp, and the lovely butterflies. An unforgettable trip!
