High water season, September to February:
You'll ride about 25 minutes to the Tiger Trail Adventure Camp on the banks of the Nam Khan River where we'll review kayaking basics and safety before heading down the river. Nam Khan River conditions vary widely.
During the high water season the river is swollen, flowing well, and winds through stunning lush jungle, rice paddies, local villages, and elephant camps (where you might catch a glimpse of them splashing on the river banks).
This 20 km easy-medium run usually takes 3-4 hours with breaks. We'll end just under the Luang Prabang city bridge where we meet the truck for a 15 minute return ride. We have the option to make the route shorter to approx 9 km and 2 hours. Please ask our staff.
Low water season, March to August:
During the dry season the river is significantly lower and exposes white sand beaches and riverbanks where we can stop for photo ops, river-jumping from trees, and to visit Henri Mahout’s resting site in the jungle a short walk from the river.
This 11 km easy run (including some rapids) usually takes about 3 hours with breaks. We'll beach the kayaks at a local's favorite spot, Geang Noun, before transferring you back to the city by vehicle.
MEETING POINT: at 08:20 at Tiger Trail Sales office on Sisavangvong Road (close to National Museum).
