Penn Center's annual Heritage Days Celebration brings generations together on historic St. Helena Island to celebrate Gullah Geechee heritage and the cultural legacy of the Sea Islands.

Throughout the celebration, visitors can experience Gullah Geechee arts and crafts, music, storytelling, food, cultural demonstrations, performances, vendors, community traditions and connections to West and Central African heritage.

Penn Center itself holds an important place in African American history and remains one of the most significant cultural institutions within the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor.

This is an opportunity to experience the culture in the community where generations of these traditions have been preserved.

Meet your fellow travelers and board our comfortable motorcoach in the Atlanta area.

Because we're making the most of one full day on St. Helena Island, this journey includes a very early morning departure.

A final departure location and detailed traveler instructions will be provided to registered guests.

Evening Departure

We'll depart St. Helena Island at approximately 6:00 PM and begin our journey back to Atlanta.

Food will be available for purchase during the Heritage Days Celebration.

One of the pleasures of Heritage Days is experiencing the food of the Lowcountry, so we encourage travelers to explore the available festival food vendors.

Breakfast during our early-morning travel stop will also be on your own.

Snacks and bottled water will be provided aboard the motorcoach.

$99 Non-Refundable Deposit

A $99 non-refundable deposit per traveler is required to reserve your seat on the Heritage Days Journey.

The deposit is applied toward the total trip price and is non-refundable if the traveler cancels.

Payment processing fees are also non-refundable.

Final Payment

The remaining balance is due by October 16, 2026.

Reservations made after October 16 must be paid in full at the time of booking.

Reservations with an unpaid balance after the final payment deadline may be canceled, and the $99 deposit will be forfeited.

Cancellation Through September 30, 2026

If you cancel on or before September 30, 2026, payments made above the $99 non-refundable deposit are refundable.

The $99 deposit and payment processing fees are non-refundable.

Cancellation October 1–16, 2026

If you cancel between October 1 and October 16, 2026, the $99 deposit remains non-refundable.

Any payments made above the deposit are eligible for a 50% refund.

Payment processing fees are non-refundable.

Cancellation Beginning October 17, 2026

Beginning October 17, 2026, all payments are non-refundable.

No refunds or credits will be issued for cancellations, missed departures, late arrivals, no-shows or unused portions of the journey.

Last-Minute Registration

Last-minute registration is available October 17–30, 2026, if seats remain.

The Last-Minute price is $275 per person and must be paid in full when booking.

All Last-Minute registrations are non-refundable.

Priority Seating

The optional $25 Priority Motorcoach Seating add-on is non-refundable.

Trip Cancellation by Nomadic Noni

If Nomadic Noni cancels the entire Heritage Days Journey and an alternative trip is not provided, eligible trip payments will be refunded.

Any third-party processing fees that cannot be recovered may remain non-refundable.

Agreement

By registering and submitting payment, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to the Heritage Days Journey payment and cancellation terms. Nomadic Noni recommends that you purchase trip insurance.  All requests for cancellation must be received in writing via email at info@nomadicnoni.com. Cancellations cannot be made online.

- On Nomadic Noni trips, acts of nature, or other unforeseen interruptions, please remember that the itinerary schedule may change, but we will always find suitable replacements. 

- Travel Insurance is not included, but strongly recommended. By booking this trip, you agree that Nomadic Noni is not responsible for any injuries, lost or stolen property, canceled or missed flights, or death. You agree not to sue or hold Nomadic Noni accountable for any previously mentioned.  

- Nomadic Noni will not provide refunds or trip/tour credits if you opt out of or miss any scheduled itinerary activities. 

- Please provide emergency contact information.

- The trip activities, tours, and accommodations advertised by Nomadic Noni are pre-planned and advertised as intended. Occasionally, we may need to make changes and reserve the right to do so at any time. We will notify travelers of any changes. 

- Schedule is subject to change (inclement weather, local traffic, delayed customer service, tardy events, etc.). Please travel with a flexible attitude and open mind.

PHOTOGRAPHY

You consent to Nomadic Noni using images of you taken during the trip for advertising and promotional purposes in any way we choose. By booking this trip, you grant Nomadic Noni a perpetual, royalty-free, worldwide, irrevocable license to use all images for promotional and commercial purposes.

CANCELLATION POLICY

You agree to our cancellation policy by booking this trip, as described on this page.

MISCELLANEOUS

Nomadic Noni may alter the itinerary due to weather or situations beyond our control without notice.

When is the Heritage Days Journey?

The journey takes place Saturday, November 14, 2026, with roundtrip motorcoach transportation from the Atlanta area to St. Helena Island, South Carolina.

Where are we departing from?

The designated departure location will be in the Atlanta area. Exact check-in instructions, parking information and departure details will be provided to registered travelers before the journey.

What time will we leave Atlanta?

This journey requires a very early morning departure so that we can arrive on St. Helena Island in time to enjoy a full Heritage Days experience.

Registered travelers will receive final check-in and departure instructions in advance.

Please plan accordingly. The motorcoach cannot wait for late arrivals.

What time will we return to Atlanta?

We plan to depart St. Helena Island at approximately 6:00 PM.

Our actual Atlanta arrival time will depend on traffic, road conditions and scheduled travel stops.

What's included in my registration?

Your Heritage Days Journey includes roundtrip motorcoach transportation, the Penn Center Heritage Days experience, a 2-hour guided Gullah cultural tour, Journey T-shirt, welcome gift, snacks and bottled water aboard the motorcoach, travel games and prizes, and journey coordination and hosting.

Are meals included?

No. Meals are not included.

There will be an early-morning travel stop where breakfast may be purchased on your own, and food will be available for purchase during the Heritage Days Celebration.

We encourage you to experience some of the flavors of the Lowcountry while you're there!

What is Priority Seating?

For an additional $25, travelers may purchase Priority Seating for access to the designated priority seating area of the motorcoach.

Priority Seating is limited and subject to the configuration and safety requirements of the motorcoach.

Can I travel alone?

Absolutely! Solo travelers are welcome.

The Heritage Days Journey is designed to create an enjoyable group experience where travelers can explore, learn and connect with others who share an interest in culture, history and the African Diaspora.

Is there a lot of walking?

Travelers should be prepared for walking and standing throughout the day on the Penn Center campus and during other portions of the experience.

Wear comfortable walking shoes and let us know during registration if you have mobility considerations that may affect your participation.

Is this trip suitable for children?

Families are welcome; however, this is a full-day experience with a very early departure and late return. Parents and guardians should consider whether the schedule is appropriate for their child.

Minors must travel with and remain under the supervision of a responsible adult.

What should I wear?

Dress comfortably for an outdoor cultural festival.

Comfortable walking shoes are strongly recommended. Check the weather before departure and bring appropriate layers, rain protection, sunscreen or other weather-related items as needed.

What should I bring?

Bring a small day bag, comfortable walking shoes, phone charger, spending money or cards for food and vendors, weather-appropriate clothing and your curiosity!

Please avoid bringing unnecessary valuables.

Can I bring food on the motorcoach?

Small personal snacks and non-alcoholic beverages may be permitted, subject to the motorcoach company's policies. Please avoid messy foods or items that may disturb other travelers.

Snacks and bottled water will also be provided.

What happens during the Gullah cultural tour?

We'll leave the festival for an approximately 2-hour guided cultural tour.

The experience is designed to deepen your understanding of St. Helena Island, Gullah Geechee history, community and culture.

Will we have time to enjoy Heritage Days?

Yes! The itinerary is intentionally designed to give you time to experience Heritage Days before and after our guided cultural tour.

You'll have opportunities to explore festival activities, vendors, artisans, performances, food and the historic Penn Center setting.

Can I meet the group in South Carolina?

The standard Journey package is designed around roundtrip transportation from Atlanta.

If you are interested in meeting the group on St. Helena Island, please contact Nomadic Noni before registering to determine whether arrangements are possible. Do not assume a separate meeting option is available.

Can I choose my exact motorcoach seat?

Standard registration does not guarantee a specific seat.

Travelers purchasing the $25 Priority Seating add-on receive access to the designated priority seating area, but specific seat numbers may depend on the final motorcoach configuration.

What happens if I'm late?

Please don't be!

Our schedule depends on arriving on St. Helena Island within a specific timeframe. Travelers must arrive at the Atlanta departure point by the communicated check-in time.

The motorcoach cannot be held for late arrivals, and refunds will not be issued for missed departures.

When is the registration deadline?

Friday, October 30, 2026, or when all available seats are sold—whichever happens first.

Pricing increases as the journey approaches:

Early Bird: $225 through September 7
Regular: $250 September 8–October 16
Last Minute: $275 October 17–30

Booking early saves you up to $50 per traveler.

What if the trip sells out before October 30?

Registration will close once available motorcoach seats have been filled. The October 30 deadline does not guarantee that seats will remain available until that date.

If you know you want to join us, we recommend reserving your seat early.
