HAKU TRAVEL PERU was the first to offer luxury treks in the Peruvian Andes. This service was kept exclusive for a number of very prestigious travel agents for several years, and we are now offering it for the first time to all our website clients.

Please read the whole review. At first I was a bit afraid I was going to be scammed. I booked a trip including tickets, but it quickly turned out there were none and I had to buy them directly at the Ministry of Culture in Aguas Calientes. HOWEVER The contact with the office was great. We were patiently informed over and over again, despite my concers, that everything was going to be taken care of. And it really was. We were sent a detailed itinerary aforehand. We arrived at the office where we were allowed to have our care garaged, the staff printed all our tickets. A really nice cab picked us up and brought to the RailPeru train station, we were seated in a nice bus to the Ollantaytambo station, thereafter in the train. In Aguas Calientes there was an agent waiting for us, accompanied us to the Ministry to get the tickets, and escorted us to the hostel. The next morning a guide was waiting for us (our warmest greetings to Amerigo!) and went with us on a bus trip to Machu Picchu, as well as gave us a WONDERFUL guided trip to MP. Even our tickets were upgraded from Circuit 1 to Circuit 2. He shot so many cool photos for us. Then, when it was all finished, he saw us off at the gates and we embarked on a return trip. Again, all perfectly coordinated with the office. I am thankful to HakuTravel for such a great trip!!! Despite my initial thoughts of being scammed, it turned out to be a wonderful experience!!! Again my warmest recommendation!!!

I really enjoyed this trip. Our guide was fantastic and told us a lot about the history of machu picchu and about the different plants and monuments we saw on our way. The only downside was that we did not enter machu picchu. I did not realize that the entry was not included until I got the introduction the day before. Maybe this could have been made clearer on the website. However, I still absolutely loved this trip and I can completely recommend it.

My experience with Hakutravel was very bad, as they didn’t allow me to enter at the Machu Picchu entrance and charged me an extra 100 USD for the supposed new arrangements they made to let me in. The guide, Abel, was excellent.

Dear Luciana G, Thank you very much for taking the time to write your review. We truly appreciate your feedback, and, out of respect for everyone, it is important to clarify the facts clearly and publicly. Initially, you and your elderly mother booked the 1-day Inca Trail tour from Km 104, which involves a 6 to 7-hour hike of moderate difficulty. One day before the tour, we held the briefing with our guide Abel and yourself, during which you were informed that, due to your mother’s physical condition, it was not advisable for her to do the hike. At that moment, you requested the possibility of entering Machu Picchu directly without doing the Inca Trail. By mutual agreement between you and guide Abel, it was decided not to do the hike and to go directly to Machu Picchu. You were also clearly informed that the Inca Trail ticket does not allow direct entry to Machu Picchu without completing the walking route. However, in good faith, the guide wished to give you hope that you might still be able to enter with that ticket directly at the gate—something that, unfortunately, turned out to be an error on his part. After completing the hike with the rest of the group, the guide met you and your mother at the Machu Picchu gate to attempt entry with the Inca Trail ticket. Unfortunately, the Ministry of Culture was inflexible and did not allow entry, as it is a requirement to arrive on foot via the authorized route. We acknowledge that, in many cases, this lack of flexibility affects both travelers and tour operators. At that moment, instead of leaving the situation unresolved or placing full responsibility on the client, our team worked to find an alternative so you would not miss visiting Machu Picchu. Fortunately, we were able to secure last-minute tickets for Circuit 2—a rare occurrence—which can be verified on the official government platform. These tickets cost 152 soles per person (304 soles total), plus transfer fees and penalties, which amounted to approximately USD 100. With those tickets, you entered Machu Picchu, completed the Circuit 2 visit, and were able to fulfill your dream. At no point did we attempt to take advantage of the situation; on the contrary, we acted to solve a problem that, in most cases, other companies leave to the client by simply applying the “no-show” policy. Unfortunately, sometimes when flexibility is shown and extra effort is made to help, misunderstandings or criticism arise that can be discouraging. This is why some operators prefer to apply the itinerary strictly and avoid such situations altogether.
