Join Alex on a journey to Kenya. For ten days our small group will explore some of Kenya’s most iconic safari areas, visiting two iconic wildlife habitats.

First, we travel north to the wondrous Maasai Mara and to the privacy of its Olare Motorogi Conservancy. The ‘Mara’ is home to some of the densest populations of big cats in East Africa, the conservancy in which we we be based is famed for exceptional lion sightings.

Here we will concentrate on finding the resident prides of lions, coalitions of cheetah, clans of hyena and ever illusive leopards. We’ll follow their lives for a few days, learning about the behaviour of these magnificent felines as they and we encounter the plethora of other wildlife inhabitants such as giraffe, buffalo and the myriad of antelope species that share the vast plains with.

After four nights in the Maasai Mara, we head to Amboseli National Park for five nights. Famous for large herds of elephants along with some of the most impressively tusked males left in East Africa. Vast dust pans reed filled marshes, stormy skies and Mount Kilimanjaro towering in the background. Imagine Africa, imagine elephants, and this is where your mind will perfectly picture. Amboseli is one of the best places in see and photograph elephants in a meaningful manner.

Your safari is much more than travelling to places far and wild. It’s about immersing you in the environment, giving you the best, most intimate experience with every detail taken in to consideration. Reaching fantastic places, searching for beautiful and inspiring aspects of wildlife and the natural world. All are key to helping you capture more thought provoking images.

Today sees arrive in Kenya's bustling capitol, Nairobi. Upon arrival and passing through immigration, your host and private guide, Alex will be waiting for you as you pass through Arrivals.

From here, we'll travel the short distance by road to the comfortable Social House, located in a safe, comfortable area of Nairobi. The Social House hotel is ideally situated to for an early morning departure by road towards Amboseli National Park.

Upon arrival at the Social House, the rest of the day is yours to relax and unwind. Once the group has fully assembled, we'll meet before dinner go over any last minute plans, discuss the upcoming itinerary, share photography inspiration and ideas.

This morning we rise early and enjoy breakfast at the hotel before departing to Nairobi Wilson airport for our short, internal flight northwards to the Maasai Mara's Olare Motorgori Conservancy, located to the eastern reaches of the ecosystem.

We should arrive in camp in good time for lunch, with ample opportunity to settle in to your new home for the next four nights at Porini's Lion Camp. The rest of the afternoon is yours to relax, take a breath in your new surroundings before heading out for your first exploration of the Maasai Mara.

Porini Lion Camp is located within private conservationist land deep into prime predatory habitats, not peripheral areas - it is set within one of the Mara’s most active lion territories. You won’t be driving hours to find lions; instead, you’ll wake up each morning to find you’re already in their home range.

Nestled on the banks of the seasonal Ntiakatiak River, Porini Lion Camp, based at the exclusive Olare Motorogi Conservancy, 33,000 acres of prime wilderness and front‑row access to the Maasai Mara’s big cats and exceptional wildlife encounters.

With only nine tents and two family units, Porini Lion Camp promises an intimate, authentic stay where you feel completely immersed in the wild, not just observing it.

The conservancies isn't bound by strict national park hours or limiting rules. You’ll stay in true lion territory, guided by experts who track prides daily and know the animals by name. With few vehicles and access during the exact times lions are most active, we should enjoy multiple lion sightings per day.

For the next three full days we have the opportunity to explore Olare Motorogi, often regarded as the most scenic and visually stunning of the private conservancies in the Maasai Mara ecosystem.

Renowned for its stunning landscapes, diverse wildlife, and eco-friendly tourism practices, this conservancy is where big cats reign and solitude prevails. With strictly limited visitor numbers, this exclusive haven can offer some of the most rewarding safari and wildlife photography experiences. Here, we’ll enjoy the freedom of off-road game drives as well as evening safaris extending into the night, should we want.

Each morning, we'll leave camp as the sun begins to peak over the horizon, looking for wildlife and due to our location, we shouldn't have far to look or travel to have our wildlife subjects in wonderful early morning light.

Our schedule is ours to set. Safari game drives will be at our own pace. We'll take our time at sightings, waiting for fleeting moments of intrigue, interest and interaction - all aimed at aiding you to create a diverse wildlife portfolio.

Depending on sightings, we'll aim to return to camp only once the light has burned off. Back at camp, Alex will host unobtrusive, helpful editing and image review sessions.

As the heat of the afternoon begins to wain, we'll head out again to explore the conservancy, following up on wildlife which we may have encountered in the morning. Due to our location in a private conservancy, we don't have to rush for strict gate closure times. Instead, we have the luxury of waiting for the sun to set, making the most of the light and subjects.

Returning to camp after dark, we'll be welcomed in to camp with a warming fire, cool drink and home-cooked meal. After dinner (and perhaps a nightcap), a warm bed awaits with the sounds of the Mara providing a lullaby for you to drift towards a contented slumber and the knowledge that you have the expanse of the African wilderness waiting for you to explore again in the morning...

This morning we may have time for one final game drive in the Olare Motorogi Conservancy before catching our internal flight south and towards one of my favourite places in East Africa. Amboseli National Park.

Located in south west Kenya, close to the border with Tanzania, Amboseli is without doubt one of the most iconic destinations in East Africa to see and photograph elephants. Vast dust pans, reed filled marshes with Mount Kilimanjaro towering in the background. Imagine Africa, imagine elephants, and this is where your mind will perfectly picture.

Elephants are Amboseli's speciality. Large herds roam the dusty plains morning and evening. During the day, lots and I mean lots, of elephants spend their time partially submerged, foraging in the swamps. Having been so well protected from poaching, Amboseli's elephants carry impressive tusks and are generally relaxed around vehicles.

November, traditionally speaking, is quite simply a stunning time to visit. Wildlife congregate around marshes and other predictable water sources. When it’s dry, animals crossing the sandy plains kick up a lot of dust, offering sublime photographic opportunities in the late afternoon.

Amboseli is also home to a myriad of wildlife with cheetah and lion being seen with regularity as well as buffalo, occasional leopard, giraffe, zebra, hippo and non-migratory wildebeest.

Birdlife is outstanding here with over 400 recorded species with breeding colonies of flamingo at the right time of year.

Your safari home away from home is at Ol Tukai - a lodge located at the heart of Amboseli. Although on the large side, staying here has it's benefits. It affords us more time to get to the right places in the park at sunrise and allows us to spend longer in the right areas of the park as the sun begins to set. Meaning we don't have to make dashes to exit the national park before the gates close.

Our local guide, who will pick us up at the airstrip in Amboseli upon arrival, knows Amboseli very well and is very experienced with working with photographers. Combine this with Alex's own intimate knowledge and experience of Amboseli - this could be a very exciting recipe for really meaningful elephant photography.

Very importantly, we'll have our very own private safari vehicle, one which has features to specifically cater to the needs of photographers. It will allow us to get very low angles, which help create more impactful, engaging images.

For the next four nights and four full days days, we'll explore the impressive Amboseli. Because we're spending so much time in this incredible corner of Kenya, which is synonymous for its wonderful elephant sightings, we have opportunity to take our time. We set our own schedule, spending quality time with our wildlife subjects, learning about their behaviour. This will certainly expand your portfolio, helping you think about photographing such a magnificent subject in multiple ways and fuelling your inspiration.

You'll explore stunning landscapes with no time limits on game drives, allowing for in-depth wildlife encounters. The timing of the safari could herald dramatic skies and rich colours, enhances the photographic experience, making this the perfect adventure for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers seeking both beauty and exclusivity.

Generally, each day, we begin early to make sure we're in the best places, maximising opportunities when the light is at a premium.

Our focus in the mornings will be to capture the herds of elephants making their way from the woodlands towards the marshes. But of course, wildlife is unpredictable - there may well be other subjects which capture our imagination.

We'll scan the dry lake bed in search of elephants crossing, which, occasionally, gives us the unique opportunity of leaving the comfort of the vehicle to photograph approaching from low angles. Zebra, giraffe and antelope also wander the Amboseli Lakebed - these also offer wonderfully creative opportunities.

We may enjoy a packed breakfast out in a designated area each morning before returning to camp, where you will enjoy your own personal time either to relax. We'll have ample time to sit as a group and discuss photography, look through images and have unobtrusive editing sessions - all aimed at helping you create a wonderfully diverse portfolio.

The afternoon safaris will initially be spent around the marshes where the majority of the elephants hang around to cool down and enjoy a drink, before making their way back to the woodland late in the evening. Or we may scour the lake beds and open areas again, in the hope of elephants crossing with the setting sun behind them. Gentle, golden light, impressive silhouettes and dust... there's opportunity for some exceptional moments.

Returning to camp once it is dark, another delightful dinner and hot shower await. There's time to quickly download memory cards before drifting off to sleep - the good news is that you awake only to do it all over again.

This is the last day our our Kenyan wildlife photography adventure and by this time, not only are your camera memory cards full but also your heart and mind. They'll be brimming with incredible memories, captivating stories to tell along with inspiring wildlife images of a wild, untamed Africa to be exceptionally proud of.

As we leave Amboseli by road, onwards to Nairobi and your connecting flight home, one thing is certain... You'll be leaving remarkable this outstanding corner of East Africa having enjoyed a photo safari experience.
