Embark on a journey through time and nature with our expedition of 3 days to the Sierra de San Francisco rock paintings, a UNESCO World Heritage site nestled in the heart of the Baja California desert. These ancient murals are some of the most stunning and well-preserved examples of prehistoric art in the Americas.
Your trip begins with a scenic drive through dramatic desert landscapes and rugged canyons, followed by a guided exploration of the rock shelters that house these breathtaking artworks. Our experienced local guides will share the stories, symbolism, and history behind the figures and scenes painted on the stone walls.
This tour is perfect for culture lovers, history buffs, and nature enthusiasts looking for an unforgettable off-the-beaten-path experience. Whether you're marveling at towering human figures or mysterious animal forms, you'll gain a deep appreciation for the rich cultural heritage of the Baja California peninsula.
The expedition begins at El Agüajito II Ranch, in the Santa Marta area. Depending on the weather, the fitness of the travelers, and the available time, up to 4 level I and II sites can be visited, according to INAH.
Expeditions can be trekking, in which case one mule is required for every three visitors.
It is necessary to sign a liability release form and fill out a medical and special needs form.
Available from October 15 to May 31
This expedition is physically demanding and requires good overall fitness. Participants should be in optimal health, with no medical conditions that could be aggravated by long hours of horseback riding, hiking on uneven terrain, or exposure to extreme weather.
We recommend prior experience with endurance activities (such as long hikes or horseback riding) and advise consulting your doctor before joining, especially if you have any pre-existing conditions.
This adventure is designed for individuals accustomed to regular physical activity and willing to embrace the rustic conditions of the environment.
