What to Expect

Your adventure begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Antigua Guatemala, followed by a scenic drive through the Guatemalan highlands to the lakeside town of Panajachel.

Upon arrival, you will have approximately 45 minutes to enjoy breakfast at a local restaurant (not included) before boarding a shared boat to begin exploring Lake Atitlán, often considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the world.

Your first stop is San Juan La Laguna, a peaceful Tz’utujil Maya village known for its artisan cooperatives. Here you will learn about traditional backstrap weaving techniques, natural textile dyes, local coffee production, and community-based projects that preserve ancestral traditions.

Next, continue by boat to San Pedro La Laguna, a lively lakeside town located at the foot of San Pedro Volcano. Enjoy free time to explore the waterfront, browse local shops, or simply admire the spectacular scenery surrounding the lake.

The final destination is Santiago Atitlán, one of the largest and most culturally significant villages around the lake. Walk through its colorful streets, visit the historic Church of Saint James the Apostle, and discover the traditions of the Tz’utujil Maya people. Depending on local availability, you may also have the opportunity to visit the shrine of Maximón, one of Guatemala’s most fascinating examples of religious syncretism.

After visiting the three villages, you will return by boat to Panajachel before beginning the drive back to Antigua Guatemala.
