Food was very delicios, even the vegetarien food.
I had been really looking forward to canoeing. The guide actively talked us out of it; it seemed like he wasn't interested in doing it himself. And since I was the only one left who wanted to go, I wasn't allowed to go alone.
As an athlete, it was so boring just sitting around all day.
I booked the trip in advance, but due to the Chinese government's blocking of WhatsApp, I couldn't use it. However, two assistants arrived at my hotel on time that morning to greet me and take me to the boat. But throughout the trip, our guide, Han, only offered a greeting and didn't provide any further information. He didn't teach us about elephant behavior, didn't explain anything else, and we barely even saw him. Meanwhile, two Polish people in our group were given the opportunity to sit down and talk to a staff member. Perhaps because I'm from mainland China, I'm not ignorant, rude, or uneducated; I speak fluent English. However, the other five Chinese people in our group couldn't communicate in English and even made a scene, disregarding others. Perhaps because Chinese people made up the majority, my experience wasn't very pleasant. However, my first close encounter with elephants, feeding them sugarcane, and riding on their backs were unforgettable. Although the official website stated that the elephant camp did not mistreat elephants, I still saw a keeper pinch an elephant's thigh, and when I pointed out a cut and bleeding on an elephant's trunk, he was indifferent and acted as if he hadn't seen it. In short, I strongly suggest that mainland Chinese tourists be grouped together so as not to affect the experience of other tourists. The attitude of tour guides towards tourists should also be improved. Since they are making a profit, they must use some of the money to treat elephants well!
If we could leave more stars we would! Amazing trip from start to finish and definitely beats getting the long bumpy bus journey to Nong Khiaw.
Our guide Nouaan was incredible, kind and gave us a great experience taking us to the hike up the waterfall, talking about the local people and growing up in the remote village, providing amazing lunch, drinks and snacks on the boat and dropping us via the boat right outside our hotel (thanks also to the boat driver). We also spoke with Manifa in Luang Prabang to ensure we could get the trip on the day we wanted - they usually (understandably) only run the trip if there are 4+ people booked. It seemed people had dropped out on the day as we were the only people on the trip but they didn’t cancel on us, with the added bonus of the tour being private! Can’t recommend this trip enough and would definitely book again! All the best to the team and especially the lovely Nouaan! - Matt & Silvia
I joined the program Half day tour go by slow boat to Elephant champ activities and whisky village with my friend.
We could have a great time with elephants, mohouts and other visiters.
Riding on an elephant directly was a special and unique experience. It was so nice!
I recommend you to join the tour!!!
