About this trip

Join us for a pop-up, multi-day, anti-racism trip in New Orleans with Tony Nabors of Racial Equity Insights and Tina Strawn of Legacy Trips.

We both reside in Costa Rica and we recently found out we’ll be in New Orleans this November. What a great opportunity for us to spend time with our people while we're in the States! /rather than let the opportunity pass, we decided to create something meaningful around it: a few days to get out of the classroom, explore the city, connect with other people who care about racial equity, and do some transformational work together.

But first, we need to make sure this trip actually happens. We need at least 3 people to register by October 8, or we’ll have to cancel the experience, as that is the deadline for us to refund the lodging deposit. So if New Orleans with us sounds like something you’ve been waiting for, now is the time to claim your spot.

We will explore history, culture, race, resistance, spirituality, and what all of this has to do with the work we’re trying to do in our own lives.

But we’re also going to eat. Walk around New Orleans. Laugh. Explore. Have conversations over dinner. We’re going to sit with some uncomfortable things, in community, together.

This is going to be so much more than just sitting in a classroom. We’re going to educate your mind, inspire and direct your body (actions and voice), and possibly most importantly, we’re going to transform your HEART.

We’re creating an experience that will not just be another conference or training you have to sit through while trying not to fall asleep. This trip will feel more like spending a few days with a group of thoughtful people who care about this work and want to grow together.

We will visit historic places such as:

  • the French Quarter and the French Market, including Cafe DuMonde

  • The Riverwalk and other local sites such as Bourbon St, etc

  • Marie Laveau guided, walking tours and Voodoo shops

  • Baldwin & Co Bookstore

  • The Whitney Plantation

This private experience is only open for up to 9 people.

Included in this unique Legacy experience is the option to stay with Tony and Tina in our community house near the French Quarter, or there is an off-site/commuter option for those who live locally or want to secure their own overnight accommodations. Transportation to the sites, all guided workshops and sessions, most meals, and all entrance, admission and tour fees are included.

Everyone will be responsible for all of their own expenses when we dine out and shop.

Whether you have been to New Orleans before, or have always wanted to go, this trip is best suited for people who have an interest in Black creole traditions that include but are not limited to food, jazz and other styles of New Orleans music, Catholicism, Voodoo, and ancestry work.

Upon registering, our team will reach out to you to share all the details of the trip so you can make your travel arrangements as soon as possible.

Legacy Trips alumni are highly encouraged to consider joining this!

What You’ll Leave With

  • Actually experience the history you’ve been learning about. Walk through the actual places where Black history, resistance, culture, and survival unfolded, and engage with stories that are difficult to FEEL from a book or a screen.

  • Uncover what’s still getting in the way of your allyship. Get honest about the assumptions, subconscious biases, and racial conditioning that can quietly shape how you listen, speak, respond, and advocate, even when your intentions are good.

  • Learn how to stay present when the work gets uncomfortable. Practice moving through uncertainty, difficult conversations, and challenging emotions without retreating, getting defensive, or worrying so much about getting it “right” that you stop engaging.

  • Come home with a stronger blueprint for action. Use what you experience to think more clearly about how you can use your voice, relationships, resources, and influence to support racial equity more effectively.

  • Find your people. Spend several days in real community with other people who are serious about growing their anti-racism practice, asking better questions, challenging themselves, and becoming more effective advocates.

*Please be aware that all deposits for all Legacy Trips are non-refundable. See our cancelation policy for more details.

Who Is This Trip For?

This trip is designed for people of all racial and gender identities, 18 years of age and older, who want to do the inner work of allowing truth to guide them in their anti-racism journey, and who have a value for collective liberation.

Protecting and honoring Black women is our priority. In a dynamic where folks of different racial identities will be confronting and unpacking their racism in the presence of Black women, please note that we intentionally and respectfully center, prioritize and defer to the expertise and voices of the Black women in the space. This commitment includes intentionality in the execution of all parts of the trip.

Cancelation Policy

Deposits for all Legacy Trips are non-refundable. The balance of the total cost of the trip, not including the deposit, is refundable in the event the participant requests in writing to cancel at least 30 days before the start of the trip they registered for. If the need to cancel arises, though the deposit is not refundable, it is transferable to another Legacy Trip within one calendar year. If the participant has paid more than the deposit, they have the option to put whatever monies they have already paid (minus the deposit) towards an upcoming Legacy Trip within one calendar year.
