About this trip

Art & Culture Retreat in the heart of Northwestern Spain along the Camino de Santiago

Experience geometry as a universal language and a meditative and contemplative practice. Throughout the week you will explore geometry in sacred art, mandalas and biomorphic designs from along the Camino and relate it to other traditions from Eastern Asia. Practical art classes will be complemented with visits to local architectural treasures, such as 5,000 year old petroglyphs at sunrise, Roman mosaics, a 10th c. pre-Romanesque monastery and the 13th c. Gothic Cathedral of León. You will collect gorgeous Camino earths, learn how to prepare and paint your mandalas with natural pigments.

This  will  also  be  your  opportunity  to  spend  some  quiet  time  in  nature  on  the  Camino  de  Santiago.  Go  for walks.  Enjoy  home - cooked  healthy meals  under  the  pergola.  Share  with  others  and  enjoy  the  quiet  of  the  starlit  Milky  Way.

A collaboration between Stephanie Ellis & Flores del Camino (Bertrand Gamrowski, Basia Goodwin)

A life changing experience. Bertrand and Basia provided a nurturing and inspiring environment to stay during a week of drawing and painting mandalas. All the tutors were professional and gave detailed and relevant talks and lessons that focused on traditional sacred art and geometry techniques giving step by step lessons for advanced geometry forms based on symbols found across both eastern and western architecture. We learned to make natural paints with local pigments, visited stunning local sites that ranged from 5thb.c- 14tha.d providing us with opportunities for onsite sketching, photography and meditation. The food and accommodation was 5star and we even got to witness a local festival unique to this area where the village celebrate the Fiesta de la Magdalena and dress up in traditional dress, castanettes, dancing and shared drink and food. Above all, I met amazing people who all shared a love and passion for sacred geometry.

I had a great time. Wonderful hosts, delicious food, beautiful place and very interesting courses, visits and daily structure. I highly recommend "Mandalas from East and West " to anybody interested in geometry in sacred arts. Basia, Stefanie and Bertrand's kindness and deep knowledge of the studied topics made this week a unique and wonderful week.

A wonderful retreat in a perfect setting. I cannot recommend our generous, wise and sensitive hosts, Basia and Bertrand of Flores Del Camino, and Stephanie June Ellis of The Art of Process, highly enough. All aspects of this trip, from the setting, the accomodation and the food, to the knowledge and expertise of our hosts and teachers, were excellent. What a great week of geometry, history, tradition, introspection and community. Thank you!

I had a very very good experience. Everything was well organised, I felt taken care of up to very little details. The welcome is heartfelt, the accommodation is very comfortable, the food is super great. The village close to the Camino is worth discovering and one of the most beautiful I've seen. I highly recommend it.
