About this trip

We will be reading Brene Brown's

Braving the Wilderness: The Quest for True Belonging and the Courage to Stand Alone

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - A timely and important book that challenges everything we think we know about cultivating true belonging in our communities, organizations, and culture.

"True belonging doesn't require us to change who we are. It requires us to be who we are." Social scientist Brene Brown, PhD, LMSW, has sparked a global conversation about the experiences that bring meaning to our lives--experiences of courage, vulnerability, love, belonging, shame, and empathy. In Braving the Wilderness, Brown redefines what it means to truly belong in an age of increased polarization. With her trademark mix of research, storytelling, and honesty, Brown will again change the cultural conversation while mapping a clear path to true belonging.

Two Virtual Meetings: March 21 & April 11

Each time I partake in a Wild Within offering I am blow away by the people showing up. The facilitators, Kelly and Alasdair, have a unique approach to gathering that creates a safe, supportive space for everyone to share their true thoughts, feelings, views etc. I always feel I can show up authentically and that has been so empowering. I most recently attended the book club for Brene Brown's Braving the Wilderness. I really loved the book and attending the book club gave me such a deeper understanding of the material. I did not know most of the participants before hand and I was truly amazed and appreciative of their insights! Highly recommend!!

Great discussion and application to daily living. As moderators, Kelly and Alasdair do a great job of monitoring the discussions and drawing all participants into the conversation, connecting the discussions back to the tenets of the book. Participants were free to ask questions of the group and were encouraged to take the discussions in a direction that further led to understanding, created deeper meaning, or served the curiosity of the readers. I have found these discussions honor each participant in an inclusive environment, and create a great community of readers sharing a common experience. Highly recommended.

Excellent facilitators of the discussion. Kelly and Alasdair skillfully monitored the discussions and made adjustments to include every participant. They asked open ended questions specific to the general group, as well as drawing out individuals. The discussion took a variety of paths that all had a common thread back to the readings for deeper meaning and understanding. Additionally, the facilitators sought individual reflections based on knowing the group’s prior experiences and backgrounds. Rapport was established quickly in an accepting environment that honored each participant. I would sign up again for another book discussion with this group just to be in a community of learners that seek to understand. This was a stellar experience.
