About your trip

Explore authentic Mexican markets as a local and try your hand at making traditional salsa! In this tour, you'll see 2 markets and you'll also get to try different traditional Mexican dishes like quesadillas, atole, coctel de frutas, mole, huaraches and more.  We will embark on brief walking tour of Centro Historico, where you will learn about the early years of Tenochtitlan and some facts about what we call CDMX today.  The first market we’ll visit is a local spot where you'll get to appreciate murals from the 30s and eat a morning snack. Afterwards, we'll travel by subway to Jamaica market where you will marvel at the diversity of its flowers and try a traditional quesadilla. You'll pick the ingredients for your salsa- completely to your taste. Your salsa making lesson will take place in a family-run eatery that has been there for generations and your teacher will be a family member. In the end, you will get to eat your creation in their establishment and rest before going back.

Delve into a lesser-known market covered in murals from the 30s

You'll be surprised to find yourself in a local and off-the-beaten-path market where the walls are covered in murals from the 30s. You will learn about the history of this particular tianguis and you'll have a morning snack! Depending on availability, you'll try tamales, atole, cafe de olla or a delicious and fresh fruit cocktail.

Mercado de Jamaica

Exploring Jamaica market

We will ride the subway from Historical Downtown to Mercado de Jamaica. You'll try a quesadilla or a sope at a local food stall. You will also have a small tasting of different mole pastes.
Immerse yourself in the culture of tianguis and your guide will explain their context in contemporary Mexico. After eating, you'll walk through the massive array of flowers in Mercado de Jamaica. It is the largest flower market in the city, after all!

Time to make your salsa

Once you have stolled through the flower-covered corridors, choose the ingredients you want to use for your salsa. Your guide will explain the basics.
Head over to our favourite family-run eatery and have Don Fernando teach you how to make proper salsa.

Huarache cooking

Enjoy your salsa with a homemade huarache and agua fresca

Once you have gotten the ropes of how to make the best salsa, enjoy your creation with a homemade huarache-- a stuffed "dumpling" that is filled with refried beans, flattened and grilled. This is topped with your yummy salsa and some grilled nopales (cactus)
Thirsty? Try the agua fresca.
