Prepare for front row seats to your own wildlife documentary. Seen the largest ray migration on earth and want to be right in the middle of it? Want to get away to a remote location and spend 5 days with like-minded women who love the ocean? THIS is the expedition for you! You'll also be joined by a female marine biologist from Mobula Conservation Project (MCP), an affiliate project of Manta Trust, during this trip who will give presentations and information on these incredible animals so you understand their behaviour even better when swimming with them!
In collaboration with Dive Ninjas - Mobula expedition experts - your expedition will be led by a female diver, with all-female guests plus a female marine biologist.
While out on the ocean we’ll also be looking for sea lions, giant devil rays, whales, mantas, pods of dolphins, and many more incredible inhabitants that call these waters home.
Every year tens of thousands of Mobula rays visit the coastlines of the Sea of Cortez in Mexico’s Baja California peninsula. The congregations of rays are one of the most incredible natural spectacles on our planet – and one of the largest in the world too. An event so stunning that it has been featured in BBC’s Blue Planet and in numerous National Geographic documentaries. Imagine diving down into a school of thousands of these beautiful creatures as they soar through the ocean. Witnessing their acrobatics as they jump from the water by the hundreds. Or snorkelling above the massive schools as they glide effortlessly through the water in unison. This is Mexico’s annual Mobula Ray migration and there is nothing else like it on earth.
Please note that this expedition is not scuba diving based. All the action takes place at the surface so there is no need for scuba equipment. Orcas hunt Mobula Rays by using a form of bubble netting. So the bubbles created from scuba equipment tend to cause the schools to disperse quickly. Additionally, to better preserve the natural behaviours of these animals it is best done as a soft interaction without bubbles and heavy equipment. You do not need to be scuba certified or freediving certified to join these expeditions, but you do need to be comfortable swimming in the open ocean where you can not see the bottom. If you’d like to gain some experience with freediving beforehand we recommend taking a freediving course in Cabo San Lucas the days before the trip with Dive Ninjas. It’s an awesome way to make the most of your time on the expedition!
Your home for the week is a picturesque private beachfront property with spectacular views and all the comforts of home— Air conditioning, WiFi, patios with lounge chairs & hammocks to unwind while taking in the ocean breeze, and so much more. The gorgeous Sea of Cortez is only a few steps across a white sand beach from your door - where your boat will pick you up each day. And best of all it’s located on the edge of a small fishing town, far away from the hoards of tourists and big cities creating a unique experience to really enjoy the natural beauty of Baja. 4 nights accommodation on a shared double occupancy basis, breakfast, lunch & dinner.
