      About this trip

      Every year tens of thousands of mobula rays visit the coastlines of the Sea of Cortez in Mexico’s Baja California peninsula. The congregations of rays are one of the most incredible natural spectacles on our planet — and one of the largest in the world.


      This event is so stunning that it has been featured on BBC’s “Blue Planet” and in numerous National Geographic documentaries.

      We offer a more intimate experience with double the time to explore this breathtaking natural wonder. We’re offering an exclusive series of 8-day mobula ray trips!

      This is a special, limited-offer series of packages with only four spots available per trip. Guests will stay at a private resort on the Sea of Cortez in Mexico and spend their days snorkeling with a gigantic school of mobula rays. We are the only expeditions running tours in this area.

      The whale guide, staff at the accommodation and our on-site tour guide were all amazing people. They worked hard to ensure our stay and experience was enjoyable. If you are vegan/vegetarians food is limited and bland. You receive the same breakfast everyday. Lunch was different everyday but very bland. The main dishes served at restaurants are seafood. It would have been nice if we could cook at the accommodation so that we could enjoy some healthy vegetarian dishes.

      Don't hesitate for a minute—book a trip with Humpback Swims to see the whales of Vava'u, Tonga for yourself! SDLE runs a top-notch operation out of Vava'u, with comfortable, safe boats, knowledgeable guides, capable captains, and great lunches on the boat. On an 11-night/8-day swim tour, we got in the water with whales all but one of the days. Our last day on the boat was one of my most spectacular in-water days ever, and I've been a scuba diver for over 20 years. We were in the water for almost two hours with a mama, calf, and escort—incredible! Honestly, the trip couldn't have been better. Thank you, for an experience I'll remember for a lifetime!

      Humpback Swims exceeded our expectations. Nadia, the owner, is truly dedicated to providing her guests with both safety and an unforgettable experience. We opted for the eight-day trip, and every single moment was absolutely worthwhile. Our overall experience with Humpback Swims was overwhelmingly positive. Swimming with these majestic creatures is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and Nadia's focus on providing an incredible adventure is evident. We had multiple close encounters with humpback whales on all 8 days, and even on the one day with fewer swims, we found a "singer" whale, which made it far from disappointing.

      There are really no words to describe our experience in Vava’u, swimming with the humpback whales. This is an experience to be felt. There’s so much excitement, inner peace, and gratitude towards not only swimming with the humpback whales but this beautiful island and the lovely people who call it home.
