We depart from Quito at 10:00 a.m. for the park registry. The drive takes approximately two hours, and upon arrival we enjoy lunch with the team at the park entrance.

After completing the registration process, we continue by vehicle to the José Rivas Refuge car park (4,600 m). From there, it is a 45-minute trek up to the refuge. Once we arrive, we settle into the chambers and prepare for the night.

Dinner is served at 5:00 p.m. Afterwards, there is time to relax and rest before the climb, trying to get some sleep ahead of our midnight departure for the summit attempt.

We depart from José Rivas Refuge (4,864 m) at midnight to begin the summit climb. The ascent to the Cotopaxi summit (5,897 m) takes approximately 6 to 7 hours, depending on conditions and pace. Upon reaching the summit, we pause briefly to rest and take in the panoramic views before descending back to the refuge. At the refuge, a hot breakfast is served to help us recover from the climb. After breakfast and packing up, we depart by vehicle for the return drive to Quito (2,850 m).
