      About this trip

You are cordially invited to join this NASW-NJ continuing education and cultural immersion journey to Peru! Explore Peru’s rich cultural heritage (including art, dance, music, literature, cuisine, architecture, beliefs and religion, language, communication).

Participate in formal and informal discussions with your counterparts in social work, academia, and NGO leadership and meet with community members to explore the role of social workers in Peru.

This program is pending approval by the National Association of Social Workers for 10 Social Work continuing education contact hours. Attendance in full is required to earn credits

Journey Mission as established by your delegation leaders Jennifer Thompson and Helen French:   The primary goal is to develop an appreciation of the diversity of Peru, its social, environmental and health care services in rural vs. urban areas. Our aim is to infuse this trip with cultural humility which is defined as learning to identify patterns of racism and classism by challenging existing power imbalances between groups and examining the complex history behind present inequalities. Explore the five positive practices which consist of self-examination, recognition of historical relationships, valuing mutual learning, partnership building, and demonstrating respect for others.

In addition to the career enrichment opportunities, you will explore the ancient site of Machu Picchu, to learn about Peru's culture past and present as you meet with an expert expedition guide. Other culturally immersive highlights include: a curator-guided tour of the unique Larco Museum; help villagers of the Cuyuni community with activities related to their day-to day lives including a special lunch made from products they grow and produce; a privately guided tour of Cusco where you will see Sacsayhuman, a citadel north of the city and the former historic capital of the Inca Empire, Tambomachay, the bath of the Inca; Qenco (Kenko) which is one of the largest holy places and believed to be a place where sacrifices and mummification took place; and last stop to see Puca Pucara, a site of military ruins.

This was a wonderful trip. We accomplished business and were able to see and learn about South Africa. Our local guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating. This was my third trip with this group of people and my first time with Nanda. I look forward to more.

This was a dream trip that I've had for 40 years, and the wait was worth it! Hotel accommodations, restaurants, in country travel were all top-notch. Events planned, such as Jeep safari in Highlands, boat ride on Loch Tay, whiskey tasting, were both informative and fun. Our tour guide gave us detailed historical descriptions of architecture, city life, universities, castles, village life, infrastructure, economic plans, environmental conservancy throughout the tour. There is so much more that I could say about Joan and the trip itself. Nanda Journeys did a fantastic job putting this trip together and responsive to our needs. This was my second trip with Nanda and I will gladly travel with them in the future.

Joel, what a pleasure it is to read your note and to know we were part of a lifelong dream to visit Scotland! We are delighted it lived up to your expectations! Nanda means joy in Sanskrit, and we beam with pride every time we hear that our guests have had a joyful and happy experience! We are so very fortunate to have friends and travel partners around the world that care so deeply about our clients experience and also about the communities we visit, we know you saw that too in Peru! I hope you have some new pictures for your dental office, I wonder if the Highland Cow will make the cut? Thank you for your friendship, loyalty and advocacy, without which Nanda Journeys would not be possible. We look forward to adventuring with you in 2023!

Maybe I'm a little biased (I was the Group Leader), but this was a really enjoyable trip! Loads to learn, see and do - and that's the point of these Study Tours. To broaden your mind and get a far better/deeper understanding of how/why things work in other countries. Can't wait until the next one!

Wonderful adventure supporting Ninos de Guatemala. The accommodations and meals were exceptional. But most important was the comradeship of the group, getting to the know the Guatemalan people, learning their trades, history and beautiful countryside. Our Guide, Tania was exceptional and so very knowledgeable and driver Henry was the best. Nicola did a great job with the organization of the tour. Thanks so very much.

Sandy, we are thrilled you were able to join us in Guatemala! Thank you for your kind words and participation. Nicola was so happy to be able to connect with you and all the other guests and delighted that you loved Guatemala as much as we do. We are grateful to our amazing partners Ninos de Guatemala who are doing amazing things to support the children of their community. Tania and Henry are truly amazing and they for sure enriched the experience. Thank you again for joining us.

This trip was wonderful! The hotels along with their breakfasts and some where we also ate suppers, the bus drivers, our tour guide who really tried to make sure everyone had a great time, restaurants on the trip, the Jeep and water safaris, chocolate tasting tour, whiskey tour, sightseeing - I loved it all! I completed everything I set out to do - with one exception because of the rain, I guess I'll have to go back again! I didn't know anyone before going on the tour, but conversations flowed well! They are a great bunch of people. I don't think you can top that trip!
