Journey Mission as established by your delegation leaders Jennifer Thompson and Helen French: The primary goal is to develop an appreciation of the diversity of Peru, its social, environmental and health care services in rural vs. urban areas. Our aim is to infuse this trip with cultural humility which is defined as learning to identify patterns of racism and classism by challenging existing power imbalances between groups and examining the complex history behind present inequalities. Explore the five positive practices which consist of self-examination, recognition of historical relationships, valuing mutual learning, partnership building, and demonstrating respect for others.
In addition to the career enrichment opportunities, you will explore the ancient site of Machu Picchu, to learn about Peru's culture past and present as you meet with an expert expedition guide. Other culturally immersive highlights include: a curator-guided tour of the unique Larco Museum; help villagers of the Cuyuni community with activities related to their day-to day lives including a special lunch made from products they grow and produce; a privately guided tour of Cusco where you will see Sacsayhuman, a citadel north of the city and the former historic capital of the Inca Empire, Tambomachay, the bath of the Inca; Qenco (Kenko) which is one of the largest holy places and believed to be a place where sacrifices and mummification took place; and last stop to see Puca Pucara, a site of military ruins.

The experience not only provides significant opportunity for professional and cultural growth but it makes you a more culturally aware for professional work of all people at home. The logistics, the accommodations, the companionship with like minded colleagues makes the journeys more than an ordinary tour. It is a life changing experience.
