Brand New Lingeire making Sewing Retreat
Day One – Knickers
On the first day, we will be making knickers using a sewing machine with a zigzag stitch setting. Our fabulous tutor, Kristina, will provide seven different patterns, including French knickers, cotton briefs, and Brazilian styles, in sizes up to age 18. We will be using jersey, stretch lace etc and our overlockers
Day Two – Camisole
On the second day, we will learn how to stitch a simple camisole from a silky fabric with drape and movement (such as cotton, viscose, crepe, or any fine fabric of your choice). Using your sewing machine, we’ll cover techniques including French seams, bias binding, strap making, and rolled hems.
Kristina will provide four easy camisole patterns (sizes 6–30) by Simply Sewing for you to copy and use to make a quick toile. You are also welcome to bring a pattern you’d like to work with.
What to Bring
• Your sewing machine (with zigzag stitch setting)
• Sewing kit and cutting tools
• Stretch Fabric for the knickers
• Silky fabric for the camisole (the pattern requires 1 metre of fabric, 155 cm wide)

Day 1 - arrival
Arrive any time from 4pm and receive a warm welcome, a cup of tea and some cake. This is a great time to get to know your fellow retreatees, make yourself at home, settle into your room, bag your space in the sewing room and ……breathe…..!
At 6pm we have a ‘Welcome to the retreat” glass of bubbly and some canapes in the sitting room in front of the roaring log fire..this is just the start! We then gather in the dining room for a delicious home cooked supper. What happens next is up to you. You can head for a squishy sofa in the sitting room in front of the fire, have a dip in the hot tub, start sewing or just retire to bed.
Day 2 - morning
Help yourself to a morning cuppa, lie in or head out for an early morning walk by the river. A yummy breakfast of home made bread and jam, yoghurt, cereals, croissants, fruit salad awaits you from 8.30am. And then it’s time to start taking measurements and making knickers.
The morning is punctuated with tea/coffee and cake and then more delicious homemade food at lunchtime!
Day 2 - afternoon
In the afternoon there is more knicker making fun
You are welcome to stay in the sewing room for as long as you like. Dinner is served at 7pm… a 2 course meal…and then it’s hot tub, sofa, sewing or bed time!
Day 3
After breakfast it’s back to the sewing room for more measuring and camisole toile making
The days just seem to speed by.
On the last afternoon we like to stop for a cuppa and a mini cream tea in the sitting room – a time to catch up with everyone. Then back to frantic sewing to complete those projects that you were hoping to finish!
Day 3 – evening
Our evening meal on Sunday is always rather special…friendships have been forged, memories made, lots of laughter shared and it’s wonderful to celebrate that on our last evening together.
Home time
A somewhat sadder morning as we gather our things and say goodbye to everyone. For those who have the whole day to spare there is the opportunity to pop into Dartmouth or have a trip into Totnes for the unique independent shops and a spot of fabric shopping.
Don’t be too sad…there will always be another retreat…..!
