WHERE: Trail running in the Lofoten archipelago is without any doubt a unique experience! While running you will pass through an amazing scenery of mountain ridges, white beaches, green hills and grey cliffs. The dramatic views, especially during twilight hours are just amazing. Mountains rise up straight out of the ocean. Land and ocean are constantly taking over in the views. We can not think of a more spectacular landscape to go trail running. The start and end location of the trip is Bodø. The main objectives along our route are Ramberg, Unstad, Kvalvika, Moskenes, Horseidvika and the famous island of Vaeroy (only accessible by boat).
WHAT: Exploring Lofoten and the surrounding areas by boat gives you the possibility to go trail running every day, in a different landscape. Your house will be Sailing Vessel Moondance. A very durable expedition ship that uses the force of the wind to take you to the most remote locations, some only accessible by boat.. After a stunning run, you will be picked up in a different fjord than you started, to enjoy the best of what boat life can offer you. The length of the trails to be ran, can easily be shortened or extended, depending of the participating runners. You can even learn to sail on this trip, as the captain welcomes anyone who wants to learn. Most of the runs will be guided, but you will also have the opportunity to run at your own pace and explore on your own.
Your Vessel for the Week: Moondance, a 56ft Koopmans, draws its design inspiration from Dick Koopmans’ sailing ship “De Jager,” winner of the “Round of Britain 2006” and “Cold Handed Cup 2007.” This makes Moondance a truly exceptional vessel, purpose-built for expeditions and the unforgiving Arctic. With its lofty central lounge, comfy accommodations for nine, an array of heaters, a well-appointed bathroom inc. shower, and generous storage, Moondance combines adventure and comfort in one package, promising unforgettable journeys on the high seas.
DATE: August 9th-16th, 2026 (Limited to 6 people)
WHO: This adventure is for anyone that is okay with living in close quarters with 5 other guests for 5 days, staying on a boat, being adventurous and flexible, and running/hiking steep and rugged terrain for 3-4 hours each day. There is only one bathroom/shower for all 6 guests and tight sleeping quarters. Bring your ear plugs and be prepared to make some close friends and have the adventure of a lifetime! *Strong hikers are welcome to join as well.
Our trails are subject to change as we tailor our days to provide you with the best possible experience under daily conditions. However, you can expect to run from 1 hour to 4 hours, or 10-25km each day, with the longer trails being a combination of hiking uphill and trail running. We frequently stop to re-group, catch our breath, take photos, and soak in the beautiful scenery, so the distances are not run non-stop.
3 (Moderate Difficulty)
This trip is rated a 3, for moderate difficulty. Some of the runs can be cut short, but some of the terrain is steep and technical. Everyone will be able to run their own pace, so the trip is suitable for anyone comfortable with technical terrain. You should be regularly running 10km+ to prepare for this trip. If you need help with your training, let us know! Our very own Anna Frost is a great running coach!
