Friday – Travel/Arrival day – the only scheduled event this day is our welcome dinner.
Saturday – Friday are full days of touring. We will spend two days exploring Oaxaca City and five days venturing out into the surrounding villages. Every evening will be spent in Oaxaca City.
Activities include:
• Artists’ studio visits for ceramics (black, green glaze, & terra cotta), weaving (rugs & apparel), candle-making, woodcarving (alebrijes & more), filigree and cast gold jewelry, Jicara carving, printmaking, contemporary art
• Exploration of variety of cultural sites including Arbol del Tule, Teatro Mkacedonio Alcala, Zocalo, Botanical Gardens and various local markets including the Tlacolula Sunday Market.
• Stops at many historic cathedrals & churches including Catedral Metropolitana de Oaxaca & San Jerónimo Tlacochahuaya.
• Visits to a variety of museums including Textile Museum, Museum of Oaxacan Painters, San Austin Arts Center, and Stamp Museum (it’s so much cooler than it sounds, promise!)
• Towns include: Etla, San Antonino, San Antonio Arrazola, San Bartolo, San Martin Tilcajete, San Maria Atzompa, Teotitlán del Valle, Tlacolula
• Artists include: Bulmaro Perez Mendoza and family, Carlomagno Pedro Martinez and family, Jacobo & Maria Angeles, Jiménez Family, Pura Sangre, Teresa & Claudio, Pepe Cruz, Ixrael Montes
• Private Mezcal Tasting ‒ this combined happy hour and educational experience is led by a Mezcal Catador specializing in small batch independent Mescaleros.
Saturday is the first “flex day” with these three options:
A 3/4 day guided tour of Hierve el Agua and Mitla
A 1/2 day cooking class and lunch with Chef Gerardo
A free day to explore on your own
Sunday is the second “flex day” with these three options:
A 1/2 day guided tour of Monte Alban ‒ a UNESCO World Heritage site
A 1/2 day printmaking workshop ‒ create your own print using the linocut process
