We'll enjoy a nice, warm breakfast before gearing up and heading to our first activity in the Arctic: visiting one of the last, authentic Sami Reindeer Farms!
The Sami people are indigenous to this area, and their main livelihood used to come from reindeer farming, meaning, yes, they eat them. And yes, that's an option to try, only for the sake of experiencing the culture. (But feel free not to, we will not be).
The main attraction though will come from feeding the cute reindeer, who have become friendly from the amount of visitors, just watch out for those antlers! We'll also be able to take a short sleigh ride! The tourism that this activity attracts actually helps lower the amount of reindeer that are killed for food, so don't feel too bad about a sleigh ride!
Inside the Sami teepee, you'll hear from the local Sami people who run the farm, and will tell you all about their culture and reindeer farming.
Then, we'll head back to the hotel to warm up, and hang out or nap before an early-ish dinner.
Naps are only mentioned because the Northern Light chases happen later at night, when it's completely dark. We usually head out around 8 or 9pm but it's depending on where they track the light activity!
Warm snowsuits and boots will be provided, but please bring the other items we send you on the packing list!
We'll spend several hours "chasing" the Northern Lights, which the guides track with radar, so we are almost guaranteed to see them! We keep chasing them until we've seen them at least a few times, which means we could end up staying out very late at night!
Towards the end of the light chase, we will be treated to a warm fire amongst the snow, hot chocolate, and some Arctic snacks!
