TRIP INFO:
Join the Go Wild pros for a one-of-a-kind, small group packrafting expedition through the "Grand Canyon" of Oregon. Over the course of 6-days venture into the West's largest expanse of wild land for a chance to hone your paddling skills on exciting class II-III+ whitewater for 50 miles. Camp under some of world's darkest skies, try your hand at fly fishing, learn about a rich and visible Indigenous history, and search for hidden hotsprings!
The Owyhee Canyonlands are a vast tract of land running from southern Idaho and Nevada through southeast Oregon, known as the Grand Canyon of Oregon. Characterized by massive basalt plateaus and a wild, free-flowing river: it's some of the most remote country you'll ever experience.
Rafting the Owyhee in the spring is a popular and busy affair. In 2025, Go Wild became the only outfitter to offer low-water, float trips out of the main commercial season- guaranteeing solitude, amazing wildlife viewing, incredible fishing, and a truly one-of-a-kind trip with a maximum of 8 guests.
Please note: The trip require basic paddling experience and you will be paddling your own single packraft on this adventure. Please contact us if you have any reservations or if this will your first time paddling on class II/III water.
Just a few reasons we love these trips:
What are Packrafts? Packrafts are ultralight (6-10lbs) single-person inflatable boats that can be rolled up and packed in or on a backpack. They make wilderness float trips like this one possible!
Do I need previous experience?
You do not need to be an expert paddler to join this trip, but we do require some river paddling experience. We'll focus on developing paddling skills during the entire trip. Please contact us with hesitations or if this is your first whitewater paddling trip. APPLY HERE
The Owyhee is Rugged!
In the Owyhee Canyonlands temperatures can range from frigid to searing, and can be both in the same day, especially in the spring & fall. The area is extremely remote, and while our guides carry radios and GPS messengers, emergency situations often require a long response time and dynamic solutions. This is also what adds to the beauty and uniqueness of the area. Please contact us with any health concerns or otherwise prior to booking.
How do I poop in the wilderness!?:
To protect our river system, we will be packing out our waste in WAG bags. Here is a Video about WAG bags and packing out solid waste.
Please bring your own bags and something to carry them in.
A simple one stop shop option is this. Alternatively, buy individual bags or a pack of bags, and bring a airtight receptacle to pack out your used bags. DIY, creative solutions also exist.

We'll be starting our expedition from Rome, Oregon. Plan to show up the evening before and camp out at the put in with our guides or stay at a hotel in nearby Jordan Valley. Regardless, come meet your guides at the put-in near Rome to chat logistics, share a drink, and double check gear.
Breakfast today is on your own as our guides are busy getting everything ready for our adventure. Meet at 8am to start inflating boats, sorting gear, and learning the tricks of the trade before we head down river. Today is mostly flat water paddling, 8-10 miles.
For the majority of our expedition, we'll cover roughly 10 miles a day- some days slightly more, some days less. Our guides will lead the way and take up the rear, stopping frequently to scout and talk through rapids. Often there is an option to portage but the terrain can be unforgiving. This is a true expedition with technical, incredibly fun whitewater and stunning scenery. Our goal is that you come away empowered in your skills and reconnected to nature, yourself, and your people.
Along the way, you'll have plenty of opportunities for practicing paddling skills with our guides, fly fishing, learning about the natural history of the area, and relaxing in the "Grand Canyon of Oregon."
We'll also embark on a handful of stunning side-missions during our time on the river: from exploring side canyons to visiting historically significant places.
Our last day on the river takes us to the historic Birch Creek Ranch where we'll arrive by lunch so that we can get gear loaded and shuttle everyone back to their cars at Rome, 2 hrs away. Finish with hugs goodbye and a cold beer or beverage of your choice.
