If beauty is a function of scarcity, then the Minam River in Wallowa County is an absolute masterpiece. Oregon’s best-kept secret is a place of true, untouched remoteness, and GoWild Adventures delivers exactly what so many promise but few achieve: a world-class wilderness experience at an approachable price point.
Led by owner and guide Dan Sizer, this 4-day fly-in packrafting and hiking trip was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we arrived, the absolute isolation of the forest took hold. The sounds of the birds and the constant, rhythmic rush of the river created a presence that is hard to shake—a revitalized mental state that stays with you long after you leave the water.
But beyond the rapids, it was the deep human connection that made the trip unforgettable. I am profoundly grateful for my travel companions; we all shared a grounded appreciation for our time in nature and its transformative effect on the soul. The other guide Cori, was great balance of knowledgable backcountry guide and camp chef. Her instructions about rafting immediately put the group at ease and allowed us to tackle the challenge of navigating the river rather confidently. We even got a few casts with a fly rod.
I am leaving Wallowa County feeling entirely revitalized, accomplished, and deeply appreciative for this adventure.
