A large part of the natural wealth that Suriname possesses has disappeared in and around our capital Paramaribo. But a stone's throw from Paramaribo, the power of nature has overcome human influences in the former Peperpot plantation. The plantation with its coffee trees, the Kofi mamas (shade trees), the drainage canals, the locks, in short, everything that has been shaped by people for generations has now become the stage for nature.
The Peperpot Nature Forest Foundation manages the Peperpot Nature Park and the Peperpot Nature Forest. The area is 820 ha and consists of three areas:
1) a forest corridor (706 ha),
2)a buffer zone around the forest corridor (32 ha), and
3)a visitor park (80.89 ha of which 26.89 ha is already in use ).
The Foundation was established in 2009 with the aim of protecting natural biodiversity and preserving parts of the former plantation as cultural heritage.
This is the place where we will enjoy a beautiful Kayak trip, and try to spot amazing wildlife.
We will meet at 4:30 PM at Boutique Hotel Peperpot. From there we canoe through the Peperpot Nature park in daylight and the guide will tell you all about the flora and fauna of the area. Around sunset we will be at the bird tower for a short break and as soon as it has become dark we will hike a bit and then sail back the same way. The world now looks very different and we can discover other animals than during the day! The tour ends back at Boutique hotel Peperpot around 10:30 PM.
We recommend wearing boots as the paths will get muddy during rainy season.
