About your trip

Frederiksdorp is a former 18th century coffee and cocoa plantation. The first owner was a German from Prussia, Johan Friedrich Knöffel, from whom the plantation owes its name to this day. The history of Frederiksdorp is reminiscent of both European and African traditions. Frederiksdorp is the center of the right bank of the Commewijne River.

The estate is 300 hectares with surrounding plantations, fishing villages, sea beaches, mangrove forests, wetlands, dolphins and long cycling and hiking trails.

This former plantation with original plantation houses and a police post has been declared a historical heritage and converted into an attractive residence on a beautiful estate. The plantation also has a good restaurant and a well-stocked bar where you can enjoy carefully prepared meals. In the vicinity there are various excursion options, from educational to active.

Tour Departure: 10:00 AM from Hotel Torarica.

From February to mid-July, the Atlantic sea beaches of Suriname are the laying beach the giant seaturtles. You can gain this experience during a longer stay at Frederiksdorp.

Plantation Frederiksdorp

Whether you want to cycle, sail or walk, it is all possible at Plantage Resort Frederiksdorp. The resort is located in the middle of one of the oldest cultural areas of Suriname with a particularly rich flora and fauna. The nature reserve around the plantation has more than 80 bird species and extends from the banks of the Commewijne River to the Atlantic Ocean. People in this part of the Commewijne mainly live from cattle breeding and fishing. It seems to be a pleasant existence where the so-called Javanese harmony ('Rukun') creates an atmosphere of togetherness. Recommended! Would you like to make a day trip to Frederiksdorp or stay for several days? Both are possible!
