Itinerary

Rainbow Mountain
Full Description

Depart early at 2.30 am from a hotel located in Cusco and drive for 4 hours in our modern vans to the trailhead,  Upon arrival you enjoy a picnic breakfast prepared by your local chef.

After breakfast and a nice hot cup of Coca tea to help us with the 5000 plus, the hike begins with a 2-hour hike up to the top of Vinincunca mountain, also known as Rainbow Mountain. Throughout the route, you will be able to see hundreds of llamas and alpacas, hike along the snowcapped peaks of the Ausangate Mountain range, the highest in Cusco city. As we get closer to the top, the views just get more and more impressive with every meter we climb. At the same time, your tour guide explains you about the formation of the painted hills. When we finally reach the top of Rainbow Mountain, there will be very few or no people, since you are going ahead of the crowd. There is nothing more amazing than arriving at this place first and be the early birds to Rainbow Mountain.

After enjoying the beautiful views of the Peruvian Andes, contemplating the spectacular 360°-degree view from the top, we will take an extra 30-minutes hike to Red Valley,  another spectacular and inspiring place with landscapes that will take your breath away and is rarely visited by travelers. From here, we will head back to the beginning of the trail, where our lunch will be waiting for us. We use local products to provide you the best of our gourmet Peruvian food prepared by our chef and later Come back to Cusco, arriving around 4:30 pm.

We had a wonderful time. A local company who had passion for what they do. Everyone including our guides were excellent and well organised. The food was delicious, especially as we did not eat meat, there was lots of choices. I would definitely recommend.

Great two trip. Inca trail was an amazing experience and hike. Seeing Machu Picchu once we reached the Sun Gate was a life time moment. I would like to thank my Guide Miguel for an amazing experience. He managed to add tremendous value to the trip.

Inkatrail was really a great experience. We were lucky to have such a small group and to have José, who knows the sites very well and who took great care of us. On a whole, for me the Inka trail was less of a mountain adventure, but more of a cultural hike, with much sightseeing. We expected more sports and more hiking. Aside from that for me it was not so easy to have porters doing so much for us. I would have prefered to carry more of myself and have simpler meals. Concerning the rentals: sleeping bags were perfect and really warm. I didn´t know, that I would have had an air mat anyway. To rent a second was not necessary.
