Explore the rainforest at a destination called "Land of Dreams"!  Come to Tierra de Suenos for a week of yoga, exploration, relaxation and healthy, delicious food!  If you're feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or you just need to get away to be with like-minded people, this retreat is for you. Give yourself the time and space to let go of your busy life and experience deep relaxation. Learn how to incorporate meditation and more yoga into your daily life while experiencing a new place (and new adventures!) on this amazing planet

Guided meditations, a variety of yoga classes and workshops, and nightly restorative yoga will all be held in an open-air yoga studio surrounded by lush greenery. Classes will be available for students of all levels. A myriad of fun activities also await, allowing you the option and flexibility to customize your week to suit your style of adventure! July is also a great time to see baby turtles crawling into the ocean for the first time!

Tierra de Suenos Retreat & Wellness Center, just outside the town of Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, sits next to Chiquita Beach. As an eco lodge, living in harmony with the forest is first and foremost - the perfect place for a tranquil yoga retreat! The property was once part of a cacao plantation, so it's nestled right into the rainforest. Each shala (bungalow) has a private bath and a unique Caribbean-style theme. The Caribbean side of Costa Rica offers a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, so our chefs will serve delicious, locally-sourced, made-from-scratch balanced vegetarian meals with refreshing fruit juices. Costa Rican juices are such a delight! The kitchen can accommodate restricted diets, too!  Meals are served in an open-air style dining area at the retreat center.

Costa Rica may be most well-known for its sea turtle population....and we are headed there at the right time to catch a glimpse of baby turtles making their first journey to the ocean! This optional guided beach excursion will head out with hopes of perfect timing to see baby turtles crawling out of their nests and into the Caribbean waters!

Have you ever seen a vine so big, you couldn't wrap your fingers around it? Or a butterfly the size of your hand? The rainforest is teeming with life!! Trisha studied tropical ecology in the rainforests of Costa Rica and can't wait to lead you on nature hikes to discover the amazing flora and fauna. Sloths, monkeys, frogs, lizards, toucans, macaws and a plethora of other birds await discovery on day (and night) hikes! We'll also have easy access to beach walks on Playa Chiquita, a short walk through the rainforest from our retreat center. Here's a little secret: while this beach is amazingly beautiful, it is always quiet because there's no road access! When the waves are calm, there's wonderful bays for swimming and reefs for snorkeling!

There's plenty of choices for excursions to fill your days! Please note, most activities in Costa Rica require a guide because most of Costa Rica's land is protected. Here's a sampling of some of the guided activities available for purchase, with estimated costs. Some of the below prices may include transportation:

Ziplining ($57)

Snorkeling ($65)

Surf lessons ($60)

Turtle Viewing ($50+)

Cooking Class ($60)

Tour a chocolate farm ($32)

Horseback Riding ($60-$85)

Rafting the Pacuare River ($99)

Food & culture walking tour ($75)

Kayaking through the jungle ($59)

Hike in Cahuita National Park ($58)

Hike to and swim in a waterfall ($87)

Tour the Jaguar Rescue Center ($24)

Trisha has done most of these excursions and is happy to provide recommendations (Costa Rica boasts some amazing ziplines!). Of course, there's lots of beach walking, hammock-ing, and lounging around to do, too! Do what revitalizes you!

Transportation (all prices below are estimates as of 3/1/23):

From San Jose, Costa Rica, you have two options:

1) There will be a group shuttle (approx. 4.5-5 hours) to bring you to the resort for $40-50 (per person)

2) You can book a 40 minute flight into Limon for $125 (one way on SANSA airlines), and then a group shuttle will bring you to the resort for $25 (one way, per person)

NOTE: If your flight's arrival does not align to the group shuttle schedule, transportation from the airports will be your responsibility.

Payment:

A NON-REFUNDABLE deposit of $500 will secure your spot.

After initial payment, the balance can be paid in full, or in two monthly installments.

The final payment will be due June 5, 2023.

Cancellation Policy:

For cancellations up to and including May 1, 2023, a partial refund (less the $500 deposit) will be made.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a passport?

Per the US Dept. of State, your passport needs to be valid for the duration of your stay in Costa Rica (as of 3/1/23). Please check the expiration date of your passport carefully before booking travel.

Do I need vaccinations?

Neither the CDC nor the US Dept. of State require specific vaccines to enter Costa Rica (as of 3/1/23).

What about my restricted diet?

The kitchen staff at Tierra de Suenos can accommodate almost every diet! Please inquire with Trisha with the blue "Ask a Question" button above to be sure your concerns will be addressed.

This retreat sounds exciting, but I'm nervous in small planes and I'm not sure about the shuttle option.

Reach out to Trisha  with any travel concerns. She has experience with group shuttles and flying on planes large and small. She can describe her experiences to help you decide what's best for you.

I love baby turtles!! Will I really see one hatch?

Let's cross our fingers! Turtles nest (lay eggs) in the spring and the babies hatch months later during the summer. There's possibilities of seeing Green or Leatherback babies during our retreat, but of course with nature there are no guarantees.

Are any activities included in the cost?

See "What's Included?" below. Each item with a green checkmark to the left is included in your cost. In short: yoga, workshops, meditation, stretch sessions and guided hikes will be included.

What language do they speak in Costa Rica?

Costa Ricans speak Spanish as a primary language, however in the Puerto Viejo de Talamanca region, English is very common.

What will the weather be like?

Weather in Costa Rica depends on time of year and elevation. The Caribbean side of the country is unique in that the weather is fairly consistent year-round. Expect mid to high 70's at night and mid to high 80's during the day, with humidity. July has some rain, but tropical showers at this time of the year are typically brief and happen most commonly in the afternoon or overnight.

I'm coming alone. What can I expect?

Expect to find a group of like-minded new friends! Accommodations will be assigned, but singles are available for an extra fee. There is a questionnaire that will pop up during the booking process. You will be answering questions regarding topics like sleep habits, diet, yoga level, health concerns, and if you are traveling with companions. An effort will be made to group "like" people. All activities are optional, so please feel free to make this retreat your own.

What if I'm booking with friends?

There is a shala that holds 4 people family style, and another that has two levels, with 2 people on each level, while the remaining shalas each hold 2 people. An effort will be made so friends will stay with friends, if at all possible.

What time do we need to arrive on day 1?

Dinner on the first night is included, so we’ll plan to arrive before dinner. Group shuttles will be arranged and while you can arrive on your own at any time, dinner will be planned around the shuttle arrivals.

Can I skip a day and do my own thing?

Yes!! Everyone is encouraged to make this retreat their own. Some of the optional excursions will take a big chunk of a day, but don't let that stop you! There are amazing experiences to be had in Costa Rica (life is short)! Some of your meals can even be prepared to-go with advanced notice. The itinerary is flexible and will change depending on the group's wants and needs. If alone time is what you're seeking, it's all yours. :)

This was an excellent experience! Trisha offered a great balance between our yoga sessions and tour events. I am also a very beginner at yoga. I learned a lot from her, she was patient and so knowledgeable! Her teaching style is excellent! I came to respect and enjoy yoga more than when I started. We were a very diverse group and Trisha responded to all of us individually yet kept the group together! Food and accommodations were awesome! Grateful for this experience!
