After we arrive back in São Paulo, we will take a day trip to the Sitio Macuquinho Lodge, a lovely site with feeders, trails, and a forest hide, situated ca. 2 hours from the airport in São Paulo. Here we will look for the localized Marsh Antwren, as well as Bertoni’s Antbird, Brazilian Tanager and more.
Then we fly from São Paulo to Porto Alegre the next morning to start the South Brazil itinerary. With this short week trip we will focus just on two areas in Rio Grande do Sul state: 1) the highlands of the Serra Gaúcha around São Francisco de Paula and the Aparados da Serra and Serra Geral National Parks, and 2) the coastal marshes of the amazing Lagoa do Peixe National Park and surrounding area. This combines two of the very best areas while avoiding some of the longer drives The list of target birds is very long, but we will do our best to see an excellent selection of species that occur in Southeast Brazil.
