Great trip for a solo traveler who wants to learn to surf! All of the staff were helpful and my coach Chepo was amazing. Chris was the other coach in our group and she was also extremely helpful. I enjoyed the food and the activities. I plan to return in February !

This retreat was everything and more. It was my first time away from my toddler. I was a bit worried initially but all those worries quickly disappeared after I arrived and was greeted by the most friendly and accommodating staff, incredible food and stunning location. It far exceeded any of my expectations! I was blown away by how quickly my surfing transformed in just a few days. It was a dream. I can’t wait to book another retreat. 

Off the beaten path, away from tourists in the middle of a rain forest jungle, and perfect waves, this was a truly magical location. The team at Rise Up is the best - great feedback and guidance on surfing and all around lovely, cool group of people. This is my second Rise Up trip and both trips have been wonderful and can't wait to book another trip.

Best coaches, best staff, epic location. Feels like coming home to family. Rise up for life! 

This was my second Rise Up Retreat and I can't wait to plan the third. The people are amazing, genuine, kind, and caring. The food amazing, accommodations fun and cozy, and the surf amazing. All of the staff have become friends of mine at the end of the trips and it's so hard to say see you soon. We surfed our hearts out this trip, and just had the best vibes all around with everyone on the trip. 

I am a better surfer and person because of my experience with Rise Up. In one week, I surfed 10 times, did 3 video analysis sessions, went to 2 waterfalls, went horse back riding, did yoga daily, did a breath work exercise, did a cold plunge, ate great food with my pescatarian diet restrictions, lived in the jungle, and most importantly, made great friends through it all. I booked my next retreat on the plane ride home. I can’t wait to surf with everyone again next year. Pura Vida!

A surf retreat that keeps me coming back!

This wasn't my first retreat with Rise Up - and certainly won't be my last. Each time I return, I am reminded why this place holds a special spot in my heart. It's not just about the waves (though they're incredible), or the stunning settings - it's about the people.

The team has created an atmosphere that is welcoming, supportive and inspiring. The surf coaching is exceptional - tailored to each person's goals and journey. No matter your level, they meet you where you are and help you push just past your comfort zone in the best way possible.

I can't wait for my next adventure with Rise up!

This is our second Rise Up retreat and it was a level up from our last retreat - which we obviously loved because we came back! The food is amazing, the coaches are incredible, the added benefit of video analysis is exponential. While this isn't the most relaxing vacation you could take because you spend long days on the water, it is incredibly rewarding and fun leaving you with lasting skills to take into your life. I am forever impressed with the people I meet on these retreats as well as the fire it sparks in me to come back to these places over and over. Costa Rica, in particular, will hold a special place in my heart and it is all due to the team and planning that went into making this week so incredible. Thank you Rise Up Team - we will be back!

First of all, I stayed at the tranquil escape, in northern Nicaragua. I loved e everything about it, about the RiseUp team and the way the retreat was organized. This is a 100% surf retreat with super coaches and video analysis. Loved the extra activities like daily yoga with the amazing Kathleen, surf skate, ice-bath, etc. The location per se is incredible, loved every details of the cabanas… if you are looking for a tranquil and quiet retreat! There is a village around, but it’s not at walkable distance. To me it was a dream, almost outside of this world.
And what made it even more special were obviously the people: Kathleen, Kim, Norvin, Jackson, Cesar, Erman, the incredible Sasha (chef at tranquil) and her team! And everyone else involved! Looking forward to visit you all again!!!

Rise Up is awesome! Such great coaches, food is delicious and overall they run a really great week/experience. Would HIGHLY recommend to those looking to step/level up!

This was one of my absolute favorite trips. A perfect blend of surf and activities that help your surf. The food was delicious. The staff was amazing. It felt like hanging out with friends. I would totally recommend and will be returning myself!

Incredible! Everything I wanted and more! The staff make it what it is

I have never been so well taken care of. I'm usually the leader on a trip and this time I could let others feed me, move my board, tell me where to surf, give me tips, be my cheerleaders. it was wonderful. it was like a big loving family with the other participants and all the Staff and coaches. Waves were wonderful we went where it was a correct level for us. The food:I cannot say enough. I could choose the food that makes me healthy and I always had choices. If my food requirements were different than what was prepared, they would make me something else. it was amazing. 

Incredible instructors - consistent, encouraging, great direction, and joyful! 

I recently attended a 7-day surf retreat, and I can honestly say it was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. From start to finish, everything was organized with such care and professionalism, making it an unforgettable getaway.  

The surf coaches were incredible—approachable, knowledgeable, and fully competent. Whether you were a beginner or working to refine your skills, they adapted their teaching style to suit individual needs. Their patience and encouragement made a huge difference in my progress, and I left feeling more confident on the waves than I ever thought possible.  

The food was another highlight! Every meal was fresh, delicious, and nourishing, perfectly suited to fuel long days of surfing and exploring. The chefs clearly took pride in using local, high-quality ingredients, and it showed in every bite.  

Accommodations were clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed, offering a cozy retreat after action-packed days. The entire staff went above and beyond to ensure everyone felt at home, paying attention to the smallest details.  

What really stood out was the variety of activities offered beyond surfing. Whether it was yoga sessions, cultural excursions, or group sunset drinks by the beach, there was always something to enjoy. These extras made the retreat feel like so much more than just a surf camp—it was a well-rounded experience that balanced adventure, relaxation, and connection.  

A testament to the staff’s dedication came when we faced a bout of bad weather. They handled the situation with professionalism and grace, ensuring everyone’s safety while seamlessly adapting the schedule. Even more impressively, they coordinated travel arrangements during the disruption, ensuring that everyone made it to their departure flights on time.  

This retreat exceeded all my expectations, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. Whether you’re looking to learn how to surf, refine your skills, or just enjoy an active vacation with great people, this is the place to be. I’ll definitely be back! 🌊✨  

Incredibly amazing and memorable experience with Rise Up in Nicaragua at the Tranquil Escape. Start to finish everything was taken care of and well organized + communicated - we practically just had to show up - from the information packet pre-trip, to booking the transfers to/from the airport to the logistics every day of the retreat.

The surf was truly great - picking the best spot based on the tide / conditions (as well as checking with us what waves we were looking for / hoping to surf). We got lucky with the swell during our stay but I would also attribute this to their in depth local knowledge of all the breaks in the area. From beach breaks, to point breaks, we surfed it all and the waves were so much fun. Add to that was surfing with the Rise Up team which brought such a positive + happy + supportive environment to the water. Everyone encouraging each other regardless of skill level. Definitely missing this now that we are back home!

Lastly the accommodations and food were top notch! Every meal was so good and satisfying, and so much attention to detail - be it cold breakfast for early risers or accommodating dietary restrictions or packing breakfast for those leaving early to surf.

I can't recommend Rise Up enough and can't wait to go back! Thank you again to the entire Rise Up staff for such a great surf vacation!

Had an amazing experience with Rise Up Tranquil !! The time spent with the Tranquil family was truly a relaxing, welcoming and thoroughly enjoyable vacation. The main impact and values is the strong connection and commitment all the Rise Up staff share to truly care and support one another and each of their guests. The essence of family and living each moment of each day shines through so brightly and sets the tone each and every day. It was a real pleasure and gift to share my time with the whole family- surfing, exploring, laughing, talking and learning. I left Nicaragua feeling fully refreshed, energized and so content to have made a connection with such warm and wonderful people. A big thanks to the whole family.

Absolutely fantastic week. Would recommend to anyone wanting to improve their surfing and have fun doing it! Many other activities were top notch including daily yoga, an ice bath, wake surfing, horseback riding, beach bonfire.

Rise Up takes care of all the details in a seamless fashion. Everything from the food to the accommodations to the activities outside of surfing were on point. We even joked that they procured the perfect waves and tides for us! I had a truly magical and 100% relaxing experience! I will definitely be signing up for a future retreat with Rise Up!

This was the best holiday I have ever taken. The surfing instructors were beyond incredible. They provided individualized attention, and you will definitely improve throughout the week. The food was some of the best food I've ever tasted. I am vegetarian, and they provided incredible accommodations. The beach at tranquil escape was the best beach I have ever been to. It usually ended up being just the people on the retreat and the waves were approachable (1-2 feet). In addition to the surfing, I loved the yoga, meditation, surf skating, and spending time by the pool reading and relaxing. I particularly love the breathwork sessions with the cold plunge with Mitch. This was a new skill and I'm so happy that I was able to take that home along with getting better at surfing. I could not recommend this surf retreat more. I will definitely be back.

AVOID!!! I went a few years back with friends and loved it. Unfortunately, this time around it was a mess. Their information was incorrect and misleading. There are several good camps in Nicaragua, I recommend finding another.

Rise Up Surf Retreat at Jungle Escape - Costa Rica

I had THE BEST time at Rise Up. The Surf coaches were all very knowledgeable and awesome! Shout out to Paige and Alek for their thoughtful tips. I feel like I greatly improved my surfing abilities while at Rise Up. The food was also incredible, healthy and delicious. It was so nice to review the itinerary each night for the next day and have some flexibility around the afternoon activities. Grateful to Norvin and Elmer for driving us to such cool local spots. I also loved daily yoga with CiCi! I want to make this an annual trip, thank you to the whole Rise Up crew for such an incredible experience :). I will be back!

This was the best retreat I ever went to. It was so well organised, the surf teachers were amazing, the location beyond words and every request has been fulfilled. I can highly highly recommend it and we will for sure come again. Thank you so much, dear Rise up team!

Rise up retreats are always a great time. The location was stunning and all the staff are wonderful. Surf instructors are super knowledgeable and help make you feel comfortable while helping you learn a lot! It was an incredible week, I would highly recommend!

Nicaragua Retreat 21-28 May

Best trip ever! Excellent all around from the staff to the food. By far the most enjoyable time of my life🤩

I mean... Where do I begin?? My week with Rise Up was the best experience ever! This was my 2nd surf camp with them and honestly, I wasn't sure this trip could beat my first experience. I was so wrong. From the moment I arrived it felt like coming home. 

Loved the spot they picked in Costa Rica. Encanta La Vida is this lovely hotel tucked away in a remote part of Osa. The food was amazing, the staff was very accommodating and friendly, and the Rise Up team created the best vibe for the week. 

They're doing smaller groups, which gave the week more of a family style feel. We ate all of our meals together and spent a lot of quality time together, and I do mean quality. I'm very much an introvert and couldn't get enough of my new friends. I may have shed a tear or several when I had to say goodbye at the end of my glorious week. 

 The surf instruction was phenomenal. I had Francisco, who was the best! But the other guys would weigh in if they were in the water with me. They work well as a team. I am very much a beginner but really stepped up my skills in the week that I was there. Francisco is super patient, very encouraging, and loves to see us do well. I pushed harder because of it. 

The yoga was fantastic! I've been practicing for years and with Adele I actually learned a new way to approach some of the poses, which at this stage of my journey isn't common for me. Adele is just that good! She adjusted the flows to what we needed given our surf days, and her energy is the best combination of yogi zen and and spirited fun girl. She's great!

They had so many fun activities planned for us. Hikes, Climbing trees, horseback riding along the ocean... I had a blast!

Covid testing and other measures put a bit of a wrench into things, but Corina and Phil help walk you through all you need to know so that you're not stressing. 

Honestly I just can't say enough great things about Rise Up. I cannot wait to book my next week with them.
