Our guide, a twin himself, will lead us.  Every August sees Jamestown come alive with the traditional Twins Festival (named the Ye Yee Ye festival), as part of the region's month-long Homowo celebrations. It's a special celebration of twins of all ages, traditionally believed to bring good luck.

During a period of severe famine there was coincidently a boom of twin deliveries. ... Shortly after the Ga experienced a period of abundance from both the sea and the land. Twins are therefore associated with symbols of abundance, good luck and blessings.”

  When we visit Cape Coast we will trace the history of our ancestors to the Dungeons, which are ancient fortification in Ghana that played a significant role in the capture and selling of our ancestors. The dungeon is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The West African Historical Museum is located inside Cape Coast Castle and contains a growing collection of art and cultural objects, including ceremonial drums, old muskets, shackles from the slave trade and ancient pottery.  We will also visit Elmina Dungeon, the first trading post built on the Gulf of Guinea, and the oldest European building in existence in Sub-Saharan Africa.  Described as a picturesque fishing community, Elmina is filled with history. We will taking a guided walking tour before enjoying a Cultural Workshop with Global Mamas where we learn to make Ghanaian food and create authentic Batik.
