Visiting the Sierra Mixe with Raíz Ayuuk is an act of respectful connection that nourishes both travelers and the communities that host them.

 1. General Information

• Raíz Ayuuk organizes group and private tours to the Sierra Mixe, Oaxaca.
• Participants are responsible for providing accurate personal information during booking.

2. Booking and Payment

• A 50% deposit is required to confirm a booking. The remaining balance must be paid before departure.
• Payments can be made through WeTravel or other agreed upon methods.
• Prices include transportation, guides, meals, entrance fees, and accommodation unless otherwise stated.

3. Health and Safety

• Participants must disclose any medical conditions or allergies prior to the trip.
• Raíz Ayuuk is not responsible for accidents, injuries, or illnesses during the journey, though we ensure every effort is made to maintain safety.

4. Itineraries

• Itineraries are subject to change due to weather, road conditions, availability, or unforeseen circumstances. Participants will be notified of major changes.

5. Liability

• Raíz Ayuuk is not responsible for lost or stolen items during the trip. It is important that visitors follow the safety protocols indicated by the company's staff.
• We are not responsible for cancellations caused by circumstances beyond our control, such as natural disasters or unforeseen community regulations.

6. Code of Conduct

• Respect for local communities, customs and the environment is mandatory. Participants who do not comply with this will be asked to abide by the rules and if any of these behaviours persist, they might be asked to leave the group.

 1. General Policy

• Cancellations made more than 30 days before the departure date will receive a full refund of the deposit.
• Cancellations made 7–30 days before departure will receive a 50% refund of the deposit.
• Cancellations made less than 7 days before departure are non-refundable.

2. Cancellations by Raíz Ayuuk If Raíz Ayuuk cancels a journey due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g., natural disasters, roadblocks), participants may choose either:

• A 90% refund, with 10% retained to cover administrative and processing costs.
• To reschedule for a different date at no additional cost.

3. Minimum Participant Guarantee

• If the minimum number of required participants is not reached by 2 days prior to the departure date, Raíz Ayuuk guarantees a full refund of the deposit and any payments made.

4. Postponements by Participants

• Participants may request to reschedule their journey up to 7 days before departure. Rescheduling is subject to availability and may incur a 10% fee.

5. No-Show Policy

• Participants who fail to show up on the day of departure will forfeit the total amount paid.

6. Refund Process

• Refunds will be processed within 14 business days of receiving a cancellation request.

2. Reserva y pago

• Se requiere un depósito del 50% para confirmar una reserva. El saldo restante debe pagarse antes de la salida.

• Los precios incluyen transporte, guías, comidas, entradas y alojamiento a menos que se indique lo contrario.

3. Salud y seguridad

• Los participantes deben informar cualquier condición médica o alergia antes del viaje. 
• En Raíz Ayuuk hacemos todo lo posible para mantener las medidas de seguridad e higiene durante todo el viaje. No nos hacemos responsables de accidentes, lesiones o enfermedades. 

4. Itinerarios

• Los itinerarios están sujetos a cambios debido al clima, las condiciones de la carretera, la disponibilidad o circunstancias imprevistas. Se notificará a los participantes de los cambios importantes.

5. Responsabilidad

• Raíz Ayuuk no se hace responsable de los artículos perdidos o robados durante el viaje. Es importante que los visitantes sigan los protocolos de seguridad indicados por el personal de la empresa. 
• No nos hacemos responsables de cancelaciones causadas por circunstancias fuera de nuestro control, como desastres naturales o regulaciones comunitarias no previstas. 

6. Código de conducta

• El respeto por las comunidades locales, las costumbres y el medio ambiente es obligatorio. A los participantes que no cumplan con esto se les pedirá que acaten las normas y de persistir alguna de estas conductas será posible pedirle que abandonen el grupo.

• Un reembolso del 90 %, con un 10 % retenido para cubrir los costos administrativos y de procesamiento.
• Reprogramar para una fecha diferente sin costo adicional.

3. Garantía de número mínimo de participantes

• Si el número mínimo de participantes requeridos no se alcanza hasta 2 días antes de la fecha de salida, Raíz Ayuuk garantiza un reembolso completo del depósito y cualquier pago realizado.

4. Aplazamientos por parte de los participantes

• Los participantes pueden solicitar reprogramar su viaje hasta 7 días antes de la salida.
• La reprogramación está sujeta a disponibilidad y puede generar un cargo del 10 %.

5. Política de no presentación

• Los participantes que no se presenten el día de la salida perderán el monto total pagado.

6. Proceso de reembolso

• Los reembolsos se procesarán dentro de los 14 días hábiles posteriores a la recepción de una solicitud de cancelación.

We begin our journey with a scenic drive of just under 2 hours from the center of Oaxaca City to the community of Ayutla, gateway to the Sierra Mixe.

Here, we will participate in the ritual of Machucado, a traditional corn dish full of meaning and historical importance. This meal is our first welcome into the spiritual world of the Mixe people and their connection to the land.

On the day of the ascent to the sacred mountain, we will have breakfast at dawn and then head to meet with the local authorities who will accompany us in Santa María Yacochi.

The sacred hill Zempoaltépetl is the most significant place of Mixe culture and spirituality and one of the highest mountains in the state of Oaxaca. Visiting this sacred site where our fellow citizens still practice the rituals of our ancestors today, requires respect, commitment and intention.

The distance is approximately 12-14 km, with an elevation gain of around a thousand meters, which requires people with some experience in hiking and moderate to high physical condition.

We will finish our hike before sunset and return to the hotel for dinner and a good rest.

On the third day of our tour of the Sierra Mixe, we will have the opportunity to visit the famous community of Santa María Tlahuitoltepec.

We will visit two of the region's most renowned artisans. At the home of master potter Silvia Martínez, we will learn more about how Mixe culture is reflected in her unique pieces of clay.

Afterwards, we'll delve into the world of textiles at Fernando Gutiérrez's workshop, to observe how the region's iconic garments are created.

A traditional meal will be served at a local restaurant, after which we'll return to Oaxaca City.
