Today, you’ll wake up early so we can pick you up from your hotel or Airbnb around 5 a.m.
You'll travel in our comfortable transport, and after about two hours, we’ll make a brief stop in Mollepata to pay the entrance fee for the Salkantay trek and enjoy an optional breakfast (not included).
Then, we’ll continue for another hour to Challacancha, where our hike will begin.
First, you’ll meet the cooks and horsemen, and we’ll do a final equipment check. After that, we’ll hit the trail.
We’ll start with a moderate 3-hour hike to Soraypampa (3,900 m / 12,795 ft), where we’ll spend our first night.
The first section is relatively flat with a slight incline through a deep glacial valley. You’ll notice that much of the trail follows a restored Inca water channel, still used today by local farmers. This part of the hike covers about 7 km in total.
Once we arrive at Soraypampa, you’ll settle into your designated campsite where you’ll sleep tonight. After enjoying your first lunch in the mountains, you'll have some time to rest.
Feeling refreshed, we’ll begin the hike to the stunning Humantay Lake (4,200 m / 13,780 ft). This round-trip hike takes about 3 hours and covers 3 km. While it’s not a long distance, it’s important to take it slow due to the altitude.
Once at the lake, you’ll have time to take in the incredible scenery. There are few places in the Andes as breathtaking as the turquoise waters of the Humantay Glacier—it will feel like you’ve stepped into another world
