Arrive in Dakar, Senegal. Pick up and transfer from airport to your hotel. Check into your hotel and relax.
Board a ferry to the infamous Goree Island. This 20 minute ride takes us back in time over 200 years. GOREE Island was once the depot and departure point of millions and millions of Africans shipped into bondage to the Americas. At the slave house, we listen to the curator narrate 3 to 4 centuries of black slave trade as it happened in West Africa. After prayers and libation to the memories of our ancestors who perished in the door passage, you will tour the island with stops at the Women's Museum. Depart to discover Dakar, capital city of Senegal. Stop at the Presidential Palace, the African Arts Museum, stroll through the colorful market of SANDAGA, pass by the great mosque, the university, the sand painting gallery, Monument of African Renaissance and more.
Visit KeurMomarSarr, and catch their big Saturday Market Day. Spend time in the bustling market to get a taste of daily life in Senegal. Later in the afternoon, continue to Lake Guiers for a picnic lunch. This trip includes a visit to a Fulani village and Richard Toll, which is famous for their lush sugar cane farms.
Spend the day at leisure or exploring Saint Louis Jazz Festival and celebrations.
Discover the phenomenal Lake Retba. Track the last lap of the famous rally Paris/Dakar by 4x4 buggies and stop to meet hundreds of men and women mining the salt from the once rose-colored body of water. We take a ride up and down the sand dunes and discover the long stretch of the Atlantic Ocean.
Walk with lions at the Fathala Reserve, an area that consists of original and protected forest, providing guests with the opportunity to visit an original stretch of the African wilderness in its original condition. Enjoy a typical African bush experience in an open game viewing vehicle on a guided sunrise or sunset game drive where you will see giraffes, rhino, buffalos, warthog, red colobus, green vervet and red patas monkeys.
Visit the Tie 'n Dye Factory to observe the creation of hand-made batiks, tie-dye, and mud cloth. This is an ideal spot to shop for king and queen-sized bed sheets, square and round tablecloths, as well as indigo dresses and skirts. In the afternoon, explore the bustling central market of Banjul.
Take a cruise to the river Gambia for a discovery tour on St James Island where KUNTA KINTEH (ancestor of Alex Haley, author of Roots bestseller) was imprisoned before he was shipped out of the continent through GOREE Island. After a 2-hour sail up the river, passing Dog Island and Pelican Island, we arrive in Albreda on the north bank of the River Gambia. Once an old French trading post and the site of the Freedom Flag pole. After lunch, continue to the JUFFUREH village and explore the legacy led by the KINTEH family through the Honorable Lady TACKO, chieftain of JUFFUREH and meet with the KINTEH seventh generation. Bird and dolphins watching on your way back.
Arrive back in Dakar. The next day spend the rest of the morning packing. Transfer from hotel to airport for return flight back home.
