Why a retreat for introverts and HSPs?

We allow plenty of alone time to recharge. Traveling with a group can feel overwhelming if you always have to be with other people. We structure our schedules so that you have substantial alone time to do anything your inner heart desires. If we have a full day activity planned, you can bet the next day will be a free day.

We reduce the likelihood of sensory overload. Most of our group activities are off-the-beaten-path to be able to enjoy the beautiful peace of the natural world. If a popular excursion is included in your trip (ie Machu Picchu, swimming with whale sharks, etc.), we do our best to visit at the least busy times and provide free time the day before and after to mentally prepare and recharge.

We support self-guided activities. If you want to go on a solo excursion or meditate alone, you got it. No questions asked. Group activities are optional and we set the tone from the start to ensure that everyone can be themselves.

We minimize the small talk. Well, we can't ban small talk, but you will be among like-minded folks that want to connect at a deeper level and understand that small talk can feel draining. We offer group discussions centered on meaningful topics. We encourage quiet hours during certain times of the day, in order to support mindfulness and peace.

We connect travelers before the retreat. We create private Facebook groups for trip guests to get to know each other before the trip to feel more connected and comfortable upon arrival.

We create authentic travel experiences. We select locations that we know will offer a genuine connection to the natural beauty and culture of a place. Our experiences allow the time and space to connect to yourself and fellow travelers.

We encourage you to be yourself. We set the stage from the start so that you can decline an activity or leave the dinner table early. We value each person’s individual needs and encourage you to say no when something is not for you. We ask all guests to honor your wishes.

Accommodation

We'll be hosted at a private property directly on the beach called The Diving Lodge Puerto Morelos. The Mexican family who owns the diving lodge has a dive center nearby, but the villas are separate and reserved solely for our group.

'The Diving Lodge' is a rustic-chic beachside B&B with a property includes six spacious villas, each with private bathrooms, A/C and WiFi, as well as a private pool & sun deck, and fully-equipped kitchen with indoor and outdoor dining areas. All other lunches are on your own. You're welcome to purchase food in the town of Puerto Morelos and prepare your own food in the lodge's kitchen.

FAQs

What is the climate like at this time of year?

Yes, July and August can be very hot and humid in this part of Mexico. But it's whale shark season, which only runs from the end of May to early September. You'll have the comfort of A/C for sleeping and this trip is full of opportunities to cool off in the sea, cenotes, lagoons, and the swimming pool.

While it is considered to be the rainy season and hurricanes are possible, July and August receive plentiful sunshine as well. That said, please do purchase travel insurance to cover your flight and trip in the event you need to cancel for any reason.

Where do I fly into?

Plan your travel so that your flight arrives in Cancun International by 4:00 p.m. on the day your trip begins. A private group shuttle will be provided from the airport to The Diving Lodge.

Plan your return flight so that it departs after 12:30pm on the last day of your retreat unless you're planning to extend your stay.

If your travel falls outside of group transfers, you will be responsible for your transportation costs, which might be $20-$30 USD one way.

Do I need a passport or visa?

Mexico does not require a special visa to enter. You are good for 180 days. :) However, you will need a current passport that is valid for a minimum of six (6) months after the departure date of your travel.

All guests will need to arrive at the Cancun Airport by 4:00 p.m. A private shuttle will transport you to The Diving Lodge, where you'll arrive at approximately 4:30 for a welcome snack. After you settle in, we'll have a short opening circle, which will include introductions and intentions. Before dinner, you can choose to chill out or join the group for a walking meditation on the beach. We will then enjoy our welcome dinner at 7:30.

Day 2

Day 2 image

Swim in a magical cenote

We'll wake up to nature's bliss with some meditation and mindful movement in a hatha vinyasa flow class from 7:00a-8:15a. We'll then savor a fresh breakfast. Around 10:00, we'll travel 30 minutes to adventure in a nearby cenote, one of thousands of limestone sinkholes around the Yucatan. We'll return by 12:30 or 1:00 so that you can check out the local cuisine for lunch and soak up some free time. From 5:00p-6:30p, Melissa will guide a short, gentle yoga class to nourish your body and then lead us in a group discussion. At 7:30, we'll go into Puerto Morelos to enjoy one of the local restaurants.

Day 3

Day 3 image

Muyil Ruins + Sian Kaan Lagoon Float + Tulum

Morning meditation and yoga will be available from 7:00-8:00 and will be followed by breakfast at 8:15. At 9:00, we will travel two hours to the peaceful Muyil Ruins where we spend roughly one hour with a Mayan guide as he shares about the local history and culture.

We'll then take a small boat to the lagoon of the Sian Ka'an biosphere for a slow, blissful float through a unique piece of paradise. Snacks and beverages will be provided.

We'll wrap up around 3:00 and drive to the beaches of Tulum. You'll have time to explore on your own. For those who wish, we'll convene for an early dinner of tacos at La Eufemia on Tulum beach and then head back to Puerto Morelos around 7:30 arriving at 9:30.

Day 4

Day 4 image

Free Time + Optional Temazcal (sweat lodge)

We'll arise for morning meditation and yoga from 7:00-8:15, which will be followed by breakfast. This day is a free day to rest in a hammock or venture off on a solo excursion. We'll have an optional temazcal (sweat lodge) for an extra fee with the exact time to be determined.

From 5:00-6:30, we'll move through some gentle yoga stretching followed by a discussion.  At 7:30, we will head to Puerto Morelos for dinner.

Day 5

Day 5 image

Whale Shark Adventure!

In order to do our best to skip the crowds, we'll head out of Puerto Morelos at 6:30 to get to our jumping off point of Puerto Juarez by 7:30. We'll then take a private boat for approximately two hours to snorkel with these peaceful giants (depending on where they are). We'll have lunch on the boat and return in the early afternoon.

Please note that while this region has one of the greatest likelihoods of seeing whale sharks, we obviously cannot guarantee anything with nature. That said, we have at least an 80 percent chance of seeing multiple whale sharks, as they migrate together.

From 5:00-6:30, we'll meet for yoga and discussion followed by dinner in Puerto Morelos at 7:30.

Day 6

Day 6 image

Melissa will lead yoga and meditation from 7:00-8:15, which will be followed by breakfast at 8:30. You'll have this final day to relax, have a massage, or pick up some souvenirs. The day is yours to explore. We'll meet for gentle yoga and our final closing circle from 5:30 to 7:00. Our closing dinner will take place at The Diving Lodge at 7:30.
