Why a retreat for introverts and HSPs?

We allow plenty of alone time to recharge. Traveling with a group can feel overwhelming if you always have to be with other people. We structure our schedules so that you have substantial alone time to do anything your inner heart desires. If we have a full day activity planned, you can bet the next day will be a free day.

We reduce the likelihood of sensory overload. Most of our group activities are off-the-beaten-path to be able to enjoy the beautiful peace of the natural world. If a popular excursion is included in your trip (ie Machu Picchu, swimming with whale sharks, etc.), we do our best to visit at the least busy times and provide free time the day before and after to mentally prepare and recharge.

We support self-guided activities. If you want to go on a solo excursion or meditate alone, you got it. No questions asked. Group activities are optional and we set the tone from the start to ensure that everyone can be themselves.

We minimize the small talk. Well, we can't ban small talk, but you will be among like-minded folks that want to connect at a deeper level and understand that small talk can feel draining. We offer group discussions centered on meaningful topics. We encourage quiet hours during certain times of the day, in order to support mindfulness and peace.

We connect travelers before the retreat. We create private Facebook groups for trip guests to get to know each other before the trip to feel more connected and comfortable upon arrival.

We create authentic travel experiences. We select locations that we know will offer a genuine connection to the natural beauty and culture of a place. Our experiences allow the time and space to connect to yourself and fellow travelers.

We encourage you to be yourself. We set the stage from the start so that you can decline an activity or leave the dinner table early. We value each person’s individual needs and encourage you to say no when something is not for you. We ask all guests to honor your wishes.

We'll be hosted at a private property directly on the beach called The Diving Lodge Puerto Morelos. The Mexican family who owns the diving lodge has a dive center nearby, but the villas are separate and reserved solely for our group.

'The Diving Lodge' is a rustic-chic beachside B&B with a property includes six spacious villas, each with private bathrooms, A/C and WiFi, as well as a private pool & sun deck, and fully-equipped kitchen with indoor and outdoor dining areas. This Caribbean hideaway gives you privacy, and a quiet, comfortable space to gather with friends and family.

The Diving Lodge will serve us delicious and nutritious breakfast daily. We will enjoy (2) elaborate dinners prepared by The Diving Lodge and (4) exploring the local cuisine of the town of Puerto Morelos, as well as Tulum one evening. All dietary needs can be met.

Your breakfasts and dinners are included in the trip cost. Lunch will be included for the whale shark excursion. If you have special dietary needs, you may choose to bring your own lunch.

All other lunches are on your own. You're welcome to purchase food in the town of Puerto Morelos and prepare your own food in the lodge's kitchen.

The Diving Lodge is located approximately 25 minutes south of Cancun Airport. It is south of the town of Puerto Morelos (10-15 min by car or bike, 30-min walk down the beach).

A private group return shuttle will be provided between Cancun Airport and The Diving Lodge, as well as for all group excursions and dinners.

We've included 3 days of group excursions to offer you time to relax or time to visit other sites on your own.

What is the climate like at this time of year?

Yes, July and August can be very hot and humid in this part of Mexico. But it's whale shark season, which only runs from the end of May to early September. You'll have the comfort of A/C for sleeping and this trip is full of opportunities to cool off in the sea, cenotes, lagoons, and the swimming pool.

While it is considered to be the rainy season and hurricanes are possible, July and August receive plentiful sunshine as well. That said, please do purchase travel insurance to cover your flight and trip in the event you need to cancel for any reason.

      Where do I fly into?

Plan your travel so that your flight arrives in Cancun International by 4:00 p.m. on the day your trip begins. A private group shuttle will be provided from the airport to The Diving Lodge.

Plan your return flight so that it departs after 12:30pm on the last day of your retreat unless you're planning to extend your stay.

If your travel falls outside of group transfers, you will be responsible for your transportation costs, which might be $20-$30 USD one way.

Do I need a passport or visa?

Mexico does not require a special visa to enter. You are good for 180 days. :) However, you will need a current passport that is valid for a minimum of six (6) months after the departure date of your travel.

Melissa Renzi (she/her) is a Licensed Social Worker & Yoga Teacher who has been organizing retreats since 2016. She believes that highly sensitive introverts can travel and experience the world as it is without overwhelm when we have supportive structures that move at a slower pace and group agreements that remove social pressures. At the forefront of Melissa's vision is creating space for sensitive people to feel seen while uncovering their strengths as agents of healing for themselves and communities.

Melissa was a perfect guide for our HSP community. She went above and beyond to provide a fantastic experience. Many of us would not have dared taken on this adventure into a foreign country where we do not speak the language without a guide we could trust. Melissa brought us together for a life-changing opportunity to soak in the beauty, recharge and relax, and connect to the rich culture and people of Guatemala. I would highly recommend Melissa's retreats for introverts and highly-sensitive people who want the joy of travel and the security of a great guide who has their best interests at heart.

This retreat was exceptionally well-organized, and all events and accomodations were top notch. Melissa's leadership and concern for our well-being and enjoyment was always evident. Every day was a positive, enriching and rewarding experience.

This workshop organised by Melissa and facilitated by Omkari was really special. As HSPs we all care so much about social causes given our high sensitivity and empathy. At the same time, we often feel overwhelmed and discouraged from the very start about where to start from, or simply not brave, loud, courageous enough to make a real difference. Omkari gave us so many tools, reassurance and guidance about how to get started, and about the importance of thinking big while starting small, because every cause needs different types of people playing different roles, so there is no better way than getting started and believing that the difference will be made through our passion and care. Thanks Melissa and Omkari for such a valuable session.

I have attended a couple of fantastic virtual retreats with Melissa, in Guatemala and Peru, during lockdown, and also a heavenly retreat in person in Portugal. The common denominator across all the retreats organised by Melissa is her attentive, caring, fun, and professional with warmth approach that cascades down to any group she leads and to the partners she works with. Melissa puts everyone at ease and in the right mindset to have the best time. In this retreat we had such a great time experiencing from the distance the amazing work that Anita does with local women in her community on the lake Atitlan, cooking and weaving textiles. We were even brought to the market to pick the fresh ingredients! And then we did learn about Mayan remedies with Genoveva, that was mind-blowing and so interesting. Thanks Melissa, Anita and Genoveva. It was such a memorable travel experience despite being still on the sofa.

Melissa is excellent at providing a relaxing and rejuvenating retreat for her guests. She is thoughtful, planful and flexible with many different personalities and lifestyle needs of her guests. I appreciate her calmness and consideration to circumstances that arise as well as her willingness to be transparent with the group. She has always been a soul I enjoy connecting with and learning from her. Although this was my first Women's Retreat, I would recommend her experience as a "must-do" for anyone open to adventure and making new memories, while traveling abroad with a group. She is very special guide and leader. It is rare that there are still individuals like her that invest so much in the happiness of others. I am grateful for the chance to travel with her.
