I had the most incredible experience hiking with Marvin on Acatenango! He is a great guide, genuinely cares about the group, would not leave anyone alone behind and also considered the best timing for us to hike to fuego to see the volcano eruption. 

Had an absolutely incredible birthday trip with my friends and family and it’s a big bank to see CA travellers. They weren’t just a shuttle service, but they were full service travel concierge , helping me every step of the way. We booked shuttles, excursions, bike ride tours all through them, and they made the whole experience seamless and easy. They were super responsive on WhatsApp and phone call all hours of the night and even when I had to make last-minute hotel changes they were able to change all of the logistics within minutes to accommodate the new travel plans. It was truly a pleasure working with them and I’m looking forward to booking with them in the future.

We were guided by Gerson and, simply put, exceptional.

For the experience itself, we opted for both the private tour and private lodging package and it was fantastic. Gerson was attentive to my partner Lily whilst I inevitably fell behind in pace, he adapted seamlessly to ensure neither of us felt rushed or left behind. He struck that perfect balance of being professional, knowledgeable and genuinely good company throughout the hike.

What stood out - Gerson's attitude. Nothing was a burden, no question was too much trouble, and he constantly checked in to make sure we were comfortable, safe and enjoying the experience. As someone who enjoys a challenge but underestimated the climb, having a guide who could read the situation and adapt accordingly made a huge difference.

If you're considering Acatenango, I would strongly recommend the private tour option and requesting Gerson as your guide.

Truly an unforgettable experience and easily a top life memory and highlight of our time in Guatemala.

10/10. Would absolutely do it again... although my legs may disagree.

The tour was fantastic. Our guide was very very friendly and knowledgeable. We really appreciated how professional and fun everything was. Also, the marshmallows at the top were fun! A nice little adventure with wonderful views!

The guides and porters who run this your guide company are absolutely incredible. If you come with nothing but tevas and gear for backpacking warm weather, CA travels has you covered w warm gear boots and sleeping bags w liners, aswell as really awesome cooked meals and always hot food and chocolate. The guides and porters work around you and your group. Whatever you need they accommodate. Leo was a great energy and an awesome way to start our adventure with CA Travels. 10/10 don’t use any other company other than CA

Fomos em grupo de cinco pessoas de uma mesma família e compartilhamos nossas impressões, de modo que o que aqui direi é consenso entre nós.
De positivo, assinalo o ótimo atendimento na loja pela fucionária Bianchi, e a gentileza do motorista Santis e do guia Cristóbal. As boas condições do veículo usado para nos levar ao alojamento é outro ponto importante de se registrar, pois trata-se de segurança. O equipamento oferecido para o passeio nos atendeu perfeitamente. Já a comida não foi consenso. Uns gostaram, outros não.
De negativo, as condições do alojamento no vulcão Acatenango. Um abertura em nosso alojamento deixava entrar o frio. Precisamos improvisar uma vedação. Poderiam construir banheiros melhores que aquela fossa seca horrível, absolutamente nojenta. Os donos da propriedade por onde passa a estrada de acesso ao alojamento poderiam investir na melhoria das condições da estrada, que tem trechos bons e outros péssimos. Lucram muito e oferecem pouco de retorno.
Já a experiência de ver um vulcão de perto é muito impressionante, maravilhosa, indescritível. 
Ao apontar o que nos incomodou, tenho o propósito de colaborar para tornar a experiência que vocês proporcionam mais agradável. Coffee & Gastronomic Bike Tour

The best thing about this trip was the Volcano itself and the guides + crew of the hike. The Volcano is definitely once in a lifetime and the guides/crew are extremely helpful and well-coordinated amongst themselves, always keeping track of every trekker and their needs. The views from the base camp are magical, the accommodation (especially toilets) could be cleaner. 

However, the minus 2 stars are for the company management. 
First of all, scheduling is extremely important and they don’t have that right. Instead of briefing a day before (which is crucial), they brief you and organise all rentals etc in the morning. Informing trekkers they have to carry such thick liners, and their food for 2 days at the last minute compels them to get a porter. We should have all the information a day in advance of the trek so that we can pack and prepare accordingly. Secondly, if you start a hike at 12 p.m, after all the hassle, energy levels are already depleted. The hike should start much earlier so that we have time to acclimatise and rest to do the fuego hike. Many of us missed it because we arrived so late to base camp. 

Also, the food is appalling. You anyway have a hard time eating at such an altitude - the food at the bare minimum should be edible. 

Scheduling, briefing and food - 3 main areas to massively improve. 

Everything was perfect and I wouldn’t use anyone else for my travel needs in Central America 

Private Transportation Guatemala City / Airport

The way up was not easy for me, but the travel guide was so supportive - staying with me in the back and telling me to take breaks whenever I needed. The accommodations were really good with a great view of the volcano. I recommend getting one with just two beds, the cabins with bunks looked really tight. They provide a lot of equipment so you don't have to worry about bringing it with you for the rest of your trip. I really was stressed trying to pick the right tour to go with and I feel like I really chose right.

Mochila en Renta

Los guías son muy amables y atentos y los pequeños detalles como la taza de chocolate caliente a la llegada, los masmelos en la fogata y el vaso de vino en la cena fueron muy apreciados.
Fué muy practico también el préstamo de ropa de invierno para quienes no llevaban. Aunque hay algunas prendas en mal estado, todas las personas pudieron estar protegidas del frío sin tener que llevar eso en sus maletas de viaje.
La comida fue básica y las porciones generosas. No recomiendo a todas las personas comer toda la porción de almuerzo a la subida, porque es una gran porción y a veces difícil de digerir durante un esfuerzo intenso (cada quien debe conocer sus límites). 
Es práctico también la forma que nos ofrecen de transportar el agua (en un morral con un tubo para beber fácilmente durante la actividad). Sin embargo, a mi nunca me ha gustado el sabor del agua dentro de estos sacos. Yo aportaría mi propia agua la próxima vez.
Las cabañas son confortables. Yo tenia una solamente para mi esposo y para mi, lo que apreciamos mucho. Sin embargo, no es una actividad para ir a dormir. Las explosiones del volcán son más visibles e impresionantes tarde en la noche y madrugada. Las personas aprovechan para compartir hasta tarde en la noche y algunos deciden levantarse temprano para ver el amanecer. El ruido de las personas se escucha desde las cabañas, pero hace parte de la actividad.
Nosotros teníamos una vista del volcán fuego desde la cabaña, aunque teníamos que sentarnos cerca de la puerta para verlo. Hay una terraza muy práctica para apreciar el paisaje.
Durante la actividad, hubo una persona que tuvo algunos problemas de salud (vómito, diarrea, fatiga), sobretodo al regreso. Yo sentí un poco el estrés que provocaba el retardo causado por ésta persona para llegar al punto de encuentro para tomar el transporte de regreso. No sé si teníamos una hora límite. También, creo que faltó un poco de logística para manejar la situación, como medicamentos generales para su caso, ayuda para transportar su maleta dado su estado y una forma de hidratación más adaptada también. Yo sé que cada persona debe conocer sus límites y llevar lo necesario, pero al contratar una empresa de acompañamiento para hacer la actividad, también esperamos que se adapten a casos como éste.
Yo recomiendo hacer esta actividad al 100%, sé que CA Travelers va a tener en cuenta nuestros comentarios para mejorar su servicio.

An unbelievable experience.Brillianty organised from food,travel,pre-tour info, kit provided, camp location and all overseen on the trip by the wonderful Marvin. I have absolutely no doubt I would not have completed the trek without his help, care and support. I'm mid 50's and I struggled- it's bloody hard work. The other guides left me at the back to struggle alone but the second Marvin heard this, he was right back with my every step of the way. It no longer mattered that I was slow and behind the group- it became a special and amazing experience. I don't have words for how epic it was to see Fuego erupting into the night sky and hearing and feeling the noise as it did so. Being able to watch an erupting volcano from your bed is something else. And then you watch the sunrise from the top of a volcano...just magical. For me it was a really hard slog but 100% worth it. Would I do it again? I'm not sure I physically could but if I did it would be with CA Travelers ( as long as Marvin was on the team that day) I booked with CA because they invest in the local community, and it was an excellent choice.

Really great customer service team! I would give them a 5 if they could work out some logistics with their shuttle but I know there are a lot of moving parts when it comes to transportation in the tourism industry so therefore no system is perfect. That being said, the team at CA Travelers did a fantastic job coordinating and helping out.

We had fun- the trip was hard but the views were amazing.  I would prefer if Leo kept US politics out of the discussion as it brings negativity to us tourists from other tourists from other nations. We had fun and would do again just my opinion. much love from the USA to the country of Guatemala 

It was super well organized and everyone took very much care of the group and made sure everyone was fine all the time. Transport, the acommodation at Base Camp and the food was also great :)

The Acatenango tour was an unforgettable experience. Everything was very well organized from start to finish. The guides were professional, friendly, and made sure everyone felt safe and comfortable throughout the hike. Even though the hike was challenging, watching the volcano erupt at night and seeing the sunrise above the clouds was absolutely incredible.

Over all a very good experience, the guides were helpful and nice. The food was good. The only problem  was that the room was very dirty,  we saw a mouse in the room and another one in the kitchen. 

The experience was incredible. The trekking is s bit hard but it's completely worth it and the guides are super kind and help you with everything you need.

Private Tour Promises Not Kept.

My partner and I booked a private overnight hike and sunrise ascent with CA Travelers, paying extra specifically for a private guide. We were very thorough during the booking process, emphasizing that we needed a slow pace and regular stops. Unfortunately, the reality of the trip was a series of broken promises and poor organization.

The Main Issues:
• False "Private" Tour: Despite paying for a private guide, we arrived to find another couple joined to our group. They had also been told they were on a "private" hike. This completely defeated the purpose of our booking.
• Safety and Pace: Because we were merged with another group, our request for a slow, steady pace was ignored. There was pressure to continue after only 5-minute breaks (these beaks were infrequent), and we struggled to keep up. This was exactly what we had paid extra to avoid.
• Inadequate Base Camp Facilities: We were promised a heated area (approx. 20°C) with beanbags to rest before the summit. Instead, the room was freezing. It was so cold that sleep was impossible, and another hiker in our group was in tears from the temperature.
• Abandoned for Fuego: We explicitly stated during booking that we did not want to do the Fuego trek due to fitness and altitude, choosing to focus on the Sunrise Hike instead. However, because we were forced to share one guide, he took the other couple to Fuego. This meant we were left behind and didn't get to do our planned morning hike at all.
• Logistical Failures: We requested hiking sticks and a porter well in advance. We had to chase the company repeatedly for confirmation, and even then, it wasn't organized correctly. Our guide ended up having to give us basic sticks at the last minute.

Summary:
The camp and views were amazing but our experience was tainted because we felt misled and ignored. We paid for a premium, personalized service to ensure we could enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience safely and comfortably, but CA Travelers treated it like a standard group tour while keeping our "private tour" fee. I’ve heard better reviews about the company’s group tour so you may be better off with this.

We had an awesome time. Everything was awesome from the tour guides to the group size to the food to the base camp accommodations. Would highly recommend CA travellers to anyone!

Do not hesitate to book with CA travelers. The trip is organized very well, but allows a lot of space for flexibility (ex: variety in meals- pretty decent considering the circumstances). Carlos and his group (Anderson, Davis, Cristobal, and one more great guide, name slipped from me) were really so knowledgeable, kind, and accommodating. Carlos stuck to a strict (pre administered) schedule, but tailored it to the specific needs and strengths of the group. He always provided options (ex: waiting to ascend fuego later for increased visualization) and maintained a really positive vibe throughout. My most sincerest shout out to Cristobal, who accompanied me struggling through 75% of fuego. He was so patient and calm and kept our safety his number one priority. The information packet they send out ahead of time is incredibly helpful. The included equipment is well thought out and all very necessary. Base camp is PERFECTLY located to view the volcano and  has clear doors so you can watch fuego erupt from your bed in some of the cabins. The company really prioritizes sustainability. Despite the difficulty, we’ll always look really fondly on this experience

Terrible experience. No one had my name on a list, I was moved buses twice, the bus I ended up on was packed (over-booking was mentioned). We then had to change buses again in Coban to a bus that was also packed. Later in the journey they again moved people off the bus to another. All the messing around took extra time, it was very poorly organised. For a journey meant to take 6/7 hours it took 12. Guatemala’s shuttles cost more than accommodation, so they should be able to do better than this. Others I spoke to said worst experience for tourist transport in all of Central / South America. 

Shuttle from Lanquín to Flores

Pick up was at time stated. Took longer than expected, as did all the other shuttles I booked, so expect the higher end of the window and then some. Thankfully not a full shuttle but it was an old mini bus so would’ve been awful had I had to sit next to someone.

Generally an ok trip and as pain free as such a long journey could be. It wasn’t a full bus so I had a bit of space. There was a couple of stops for breaks. Definitely plan for it taking 11-12 hours.

Booked this only two weeks in advance and was lucky to get a spot. The comms from CA was excellent — replies to email questions were speedy, as was confirmation of payment / booking. 
Information provided in advance was comprehensive, I particularly liked their digital brochure providing clarity. The only feedback on this is that it wasn’t clear I’d have to carry my own food, which would’ve been helpful to know as I took a small backpack which was full. Thankfully, I could attach the food bag to the front of my backpack due to suitable attachments. 
The trip itself was well paced, comms was very clear, and the guide Carlos managed the group well. 
As a strict vegetarian who has a serious meat intolerance, I was nervous about the food , but dinner was cooked separately in terms of separate pans / utensils. 
Food was basic but well thought out in the main and I didn’t get ill which is always a bonus for me. 
The cabins were basic but had been cleaned between use and even as a solo woman sharing, I had enough space and privacy due to a curtain separating. The company also took my request to only share with another woman. 
Point of improvement would be to designate one of the three toilets as women only — sadly there was urine all over the seats constantly as the seats can’t be lifted on the eco toilets. Using them was really unpleasant, I can cope with the hole in a ground but would rather a squat toilet than that.
I took all my own gear, but they had everything if it was needed, plus option for porter, but I did it with 14kg on my back comfortably. This means waiting around a lot initially whilst everyone gets sorted, but can’t be helped.
Overall, it was a great experience and I did all aspects of the trip, including Fuego and sunrise. I would recommend this company.

Nous avons adoré cette expérience: la montée aux deux volcans, la nuit (même courte), les rencontres que nous avons faites, ...!
Les guides sont très compétents et le personnel au bureau très arrangeant.
Nous étions un groupe de 29 personnes (à peine grand à notre goût) avec un niveau assez disparate, mais les guides se sont toujours assurés que tout le monde soit bien encadré.
En tant que coeliaque, je suis très reconnaissante d'avoir eu l'option d'un repas sans gluten (avec mon allergie prise au sérieux).
Le seul point négatif: on nous a donné une heure de rdv le matin pour la dernière montée à l'Acatenango. Toutes les personnes motivées à monter étaient présentes mais nous avons dû attendre 25 minutes les guide pour le départ. Quand on a dormi 2,5heures après une première journée relativement intense, ces 25 minutes de sommeil supplémentaires auraient été agréables.


Had the best time doing this hike with CA, they prepared us with all the info and resources we needed to do this hike in a safe and enjoyable way, Kevin was an amazing guide and the other members on the team were fantastic, such a great group to go with, met some awesome people on this trip, truly an unforgettable experience thank you!! 

Amazing staff and guides. The tour was so well organized from the starting point till the end.  I was so behind because of my altitude sickness, but the guides were all very supportive and waited when I took frequent stops. Most guides would push you to keep it moving, but not CA traveler. When they noticed I was sick, they were attentive and supplied me with Oxygen since my levels were so low. I felt very safe being a solo female traveler. I highly recommend them!

It was the most incredible experience! Our guides really took the timeout the bus to explain anti-colonialist history, we’re so patient with pacing for the group since we had 30 people in varying speeds, we’re very funny and encouraging, and worked SO hard! The trip was a great experience while in Antigua and they were all very knowledgeable! Kevin, our main guide, had just started with company a few weeks ago but you’d never know! Gracias!

The best tour company we could have chosen for Acatenango! They are very detailed and give you all the information you need before the hike. The meals and water provided were plentiful to keep you full and all the gear to keep you warm at night. I love how they give back to the community and do not use horses. They made sure to let us know that their goal was to get us up there, so you did not feel rushed. 10/10 would book with them again!
