WE CREATE, OPERATE, AND PROMOTE TOURS THAT LET TRAVELERS EXPERIENCE THE COUNTRY FROM A LOCAL AND AUTHENTIC PERSPECTIVE THROUGH CONNECTING THEM WITH OUR PEOPLE.
1st Tour: Taironaka Ruins, Rio Don Diego
This is my second (and third) guided tour with Impulse Travel. Our first driver Yahir was not only prompt, but a little early for pick up Monday morning. My aunt, who is elderly and has some mobility issues, was assisted and prioritized at every stop. Yahir kept us well informed and very comfortable. Additionally, in the backroads of Taironaka, he managed to maneuver the van around some of the tightest, curviest dirt roads I have ever been on, like a pro.
We picked up Cristian, our guide for Taironaka (NOT Tayrona!!) in Santa Marta. As we were in the car for some time, he wasted no time giving us a history of where we were going, what to expect. He had a tablet with visuals at the ready. Cristian was super informative. At one point we stopped along the side of the road to get some fresh fruit. By this time, we were out of Colombian cash but between Yahir and Cristian, they offered to spot us until we could get to an ATM later in the day. The nicest guys. Cristian was also super attentive with my aunt, assisting in and out of the van, boat, and on some parts of the terrain. Cristian had information about literally everything. Animals, plants (he knows the name in Latin, and taxonomic rankings), fruits and their benefits... He is a jack of many trades. Taironaka is clearly a very special place this is obvious as soon as you arrive. The Rio Don Diego was busy with people bathing, kids having fun, and literally swinging from the trees. Joining them in the trees were howler monkeys. The water was calm, refreshing. Taironaka walking tour was great, good to go with sneakers, maybe some bug spray. Staff was very informative, and friendly. A beautiful must see, not quite as famous as its infamous counterpart (Tayrona), though they are actually connected.
Second Tour: Walking tour of Cartagena with Castle Poppa, and Castillo San Felipe
Driver was Jose, another gem. Prompt, friendly, attentive, kind. At one point my aunt had to go back to the car because the walking was too much. He came and retrieved her at the entry and also helped her in and out of the van. Nice guy.
Oralis was our guide for this trip. She was prompt, met us outside our air bnb. Very sweet, and again, super informative. She was incredibly well informed and it felt like every statement taught me something new. Oralis also noted my aunt having a harder time with the ramps of Castillo San Felipe, and called for Jose to come and meet us so she could sit and rest (my aunt was very grateful).
The castle, or fortress was very interesting, from the lookout towers, to the trampas (traps), down to the coral of which it is constructed. For me, the highlight was the giant Colombian flag that you can see from many other parts of Cartagena. At the top, there's also a small shop that sells lemonade (delicious), some bracelets and other small souvenirs. Another absolute highlight is the gentleman dressed in an old soldier's costume, playing trumpet as people arrive. This was a real treat, and the castle a must-see of Cartagena.
Popa Castle was interesting church with a beautiful courtyard and more views of the city. Oralis taught us about the (problematic) history (echoed in all of Colombia's history with colonizers from Spain) and took us to the art depicting indigenous people. It was interesting offshoot of the tour.
Walking tour of Cartagena was last, we ended at a Botero statue in the Santo Domingo plaza. Oralis was great taking us through the different plazas, and attentive with us all. I feel like whether it was connected to our tour or not, her knowledge of Colombia's history was thorough and left us all thoroughly impressed. I cannot say enough great things about her, or this tour. I'm very grateful to her and Impulse for this tour. We had a great time and learned a ton, and 2/3 of us were born in Colombia. Highly recommend.
We had a fantastic time in Colombia for 3 weeks. We have 3 kids ages 5-13 and all the activities/ trips we did were interesting for all ages. I feel we experienced a side of Colombia that would have been difficult to find on our own. Everything was very well organised and planned. The people we met along the way were nice, helpful and knowledgable (drivers/tour guides/ etc.). And all the accommodation and places we stayed were super. The Impulse team were at hand when we needed them and helpful when one of our children became ill. Thank you Felipe and team for everything - we had a once in a life time trip and will remember it forever!
Our trip exceeded all expectations and Impulse and in particular Felipe Cadena was instrumental in making this a memory and trip of a lifetime. Felipe listened to our travel plans, understood the family we have (children aged 8 to 17) and the type of holiday we were hoping to have. He proposed, chopped and changed the plans to suit us and work around us.
Colombia was an amazing place and Impulse took us to some great places that we will never forget in Corcona, Guatape, Jardin, Isla Mucura and more. We experienced hikes, waterfalls, rafting, paragliding, coffee tours etc. as well as days to do nothing !
Our trip went exactly to plan and all transportation, events, guides were all on time, friendly, efficient and a complete pleasure throughout. Felipe was on hand regularly to check in with us, keep us informed and if he was on a day off his colleagues stepped in.
Thank you for contributing to our wonderful memories of a fantastic Country with great people, trip of a lifetime. I cannot recommend Felipe enough in making all this happen and taking the hassle 'off my desk !'

This is a beautiful message, Damian! Thanks a lot for traveling with us and fulfilling your wishes of adventuring in the Colombian nature and culture of the Antioquia Region. This was indeed a trip of a lifetime! We hope to welcome you again soon and continue exploring our beautiful country.
Cependant, l'activité était censée inclure une véritable "artistry journey" ("join us as we wander through the vibrant plazas..."!!).

We appreciate your kind comments regarding your reservations in Mompox for the Hotel and the three cultural and natural experiences that you chose from our portfolio of experiences in this town. We spoke with the hotel and sadly they don't have any cribs for children and offered you the extra bed in the room, and the reservation was made for a room with a double bed.
The artistry tour is indeed three hours long and depending on the traveler's speed with the canvas it can be done in a shorter time also depending on the choice of the spot to make the painting, as you walk in the town you choose the place where you want to sit down and paint being inspired by the rich landscape of Mompox. We understand that you finished your work faster than expected but the teacher Carlos did not mention any irregular situation in the itinerary and told us you always had a good attitude during the activity, so we are a little surprised with your thoughts about this one.
Finally, the gastronomic experience you did on the same day as the Painting tour involved the preparation of the cheese and the rest of the typical snacks involve a deeper and much longer cooking process so they are meant to be tested and to learn about their history in different local points and even take the samples to go the same way as you did.
Traveling through Colombia with Impulse was extraordinary. They are knowledgeable, funny, well prepared and know all the best places typically reserved for locals. Their insight into the culture and history of the country grew my appreciation for Colombia to a depth I never could have imagined. The music, the food, the people - thank you, Impulse, for broadening my perspective in such a fun and enjoyable way!
What an amazing group of people that work for Impulse Travel! They take such good care of all the details, the local connections they have are incredible, they are very good on preparing the travelers for their trip + very accommodating when requested for something specific. I did my 40th bday trip with them and the Sounds of Colombia itinerary and it was one of the best trips of my life! It is amazing to travel with Gregorio Uribe and all his amazing knowledge and connections of great musicians around Colombia. Rodrigo and Juli also were very kind to accommodate when I asked if we could play Tejo (the amazing Colombia sport/game). I absolutely love the positive impact that trip had in the communities, as we only stayed on local owned places, ate incredible food made by the communities we visited and worked with local guides. Incredible! It was a very fun, educational and transformative trip! Highly recommend!
