About this trip

In collaboration with Sacred Footsteps, we are so blessed to share details about our forthcoming tour to Jamaica! The history of Islam in the Caribbean remains a mystery to many, but on this retreat, you will discover that there are a number of small, burgeoning communities all around the island. You will learn about the origins of Islam in Jamaica (which go back to the voyages of ‘discovery’!) with renowned lecturer Mustafa Briggs.

We’ll visit Jamaica’s very first mosque, pray in peace, remember Allah, and enjoy an exquisite five-course farm-to-table meal at Stush in the Bush organic farm. You’ll also have the opportunity to take in Jamaica’s unspoiled nature and swim in breathtaking waterfalls, beaches, and lagoons. We’ll hike up the famous Blue Mountains, where we’ll visit one of the island’s oldest Rasta communities and dissolve all ignorant misconceptions about the island and its proud people.

This won’t be about all-day tanning, beachside braids, and gift shop Rasta hats (not that there’s anything wrong with that); we just want to rejuvenate you in a different way. After all, we travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us, right? We want to share the glory, struggles, and beauty of this island- a BEAST of an island, as you will find out!

I can't begin to express how amazing this trip was! If you want to go to Jamaica and experience more than just sitting by a private beach on an all-inclusive resort, then this is the trip for you! We got to spend a lot of time in nature, ate at locally owned spots and met dope Jamaicans. Plus, Wafa interviews all the potential travelers to make sure that everyone is on the same page. So you’re going to be surrounded by nothing but good vibes and meeting like minded people.

Burgundy Roots provided a much-needed vacation to Jamaica after being cooped indoors for 15 months (2020!). I first discovered Burgundy Roots on Instagram and took a chance and booked this once and in a lifetime retreat. I wasn't sure what to expect and didn't do a whole lot of research. Luckily, I didn't need to. Wafa and her team provided a well-thought-out itinerary. It was a great mix of beach, hike, nature, food, laughter, and admiring the sea from the Sea Cliff Resort that lulled me to sleep; to bonding with women from across the world. I was able to disconnect from my daily life at home and just spend the time to reflect, recharge, and learn about Islam and the influences on the island. Truly a cross-cultural experience. Wafa and her team were always available for any questions or just to chat during the trip as well as prior to the trip. If you have a chance to book a retreat with Burgundy Roots, don't hesitate - just do it! You'll leave with memories, new friends, and a renewed appreciation for whatever it is that made you want to go on a retreat. I sure did! Thanks, Wafa and the team. Much love to the Gyal Dem Vol.3 ladies!

Wafa and her team at burgundy roots made this trip life changing! I had the honor of bringing my wife and Jamaica was such an incredible experience. We loved every single moment of it. Yes, Jamaica is a beautiful country, but what Wafa has done with this retreat is just amazing. Great food, beautiful views, and life-long friendships being made. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
