      Host Bio

Hi my name is Nique Miller and I am a professional Afro-Latina surfer. I live between Hilo and Honolulu, HI. I spend most of my life traveling the world and competing. At one point I was ranked 3rd in the world on the Stand Up World Tour. I have also found some success in the world longboard tour. My main goal is to become a world champion. Outside of competing and traveling the world I enjoy spending time with friends and family at home. Diving for shells and making jewelry.

Food, staff hospitality, location, rooms and pool were all TOP NOTCH

I thought Nique created such a beautiful vibe of different people and we all got along just fine! The surfing lessons were legendary and salty still had a great atmosphere to do this all in. My only feedback is I think salty still need to have more options on their menu because most of our group was starving after intense surfing lessons. Thank God we found a local restaurant that delivered food to us!

Nique Miller was an absolute star of a host and surf coach. I thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated all of her live feedback while surfing and during the video feedback. My room was gorgeous and so thoughtfully built and designed. While it was very hot during the day, the cross breeze and overhead fan at night were plenty to cool me down. Gorgeous facilities all around, and incredible staff at the retreat. My only complaint is regarding the food at Still Salty. All vegan... which I am totally up for. But some of the dishes were truly unacceptable. Also, for a group surfing 6-8 hours a day, there simply wasn't enough food served. I had to order at least one smoothie (additional cost) a day to stay satisfied, and the group had to request bread and avocado to supplement every meal. Towards the end of the trip, we ended up having to order in from a local restaurant. For the cost of staying at the retreat, I believe the meals should be more substantial. Lastly... keep it simple. No need to invent foods like "vegan loaf" or "vegan chicken nuggets," which were essentially sauteed clumps of corn flour when a plate of well made rice, beans, plantains and veggies would do just the trick. Those two meals in particular were tough to eat and to digest. Over all, as beautiful as Still Salty is, I would not return, as I would want a more authentically Nicaraguan experience... especially when it comes to food. Nicaragua has incredible cuisine, and should most definitely be incorporated into a retreat in rural Nica. Thank you <3

Fantastic time at Still Salty Escape! The owners, Kayla and Alex, made a daily appearance an expressed their gratitude for our attendance. The staff was so friendly and accommodating to each of us. The center was well kept and fit the vibe of a retreat. The food was PHENOMENAL! And of course, Melanie, our instructor, was such a candid and genuine soul that facilitated deep connection and discovery amongst us and ourselves. And thanks to the drivers, well done!!

I’m not really sure what to write here because there were aspects of the trip that were wonderful and aspects that were not. Unfortunately, Dina Ivas was not in a space mentally and emotionally to be leading a retreat and because of that, there were a lot of issues for the first 5 days. After she left, leaving us there without a leader for the last 2 days, the retreat owners and their manager stepped in and really took care of us. The retreat space is very special but there are definitely areas of improvement that I know they will work on as they continue to build and grow. They just celebrated their first year. The staff from the kitchen crew to the cleaning crew, were incredible. The food was spectacular and the views were insane. The best part of the entire trip was Maria. Still salty had just hired here and we were her first retreat. She handled a very difficult situation with such ease and grace and then stepped in for the last 2 days and took us through beautiful yoga and meditation practices. We laughed, we cried, a lot and we loved on one another. If it weren’t for her, this would have been a 1 star. I was hesitant to leave a review at all because it’s so mixed, but I read these things myself, and I want to give the most honest description of my experience.
