This afternoon, we set off for our tour of Dar. You will visit historical sites and learn about the historical beginnings of the city. 

Today on the tour we will explore the famous largest local Market of Kariakoo where you can source textiles, authentic art and souvenirs, fish market and more!

Today we explore the Culture of Tanzania. Village museum tour + traditional dance class/ performance.

Makubusho village Museum- You will go on guided walking tour into the homes of Tanzania’s tribes. The Village Museum is a hands on museum that showcases the traditional homes and living conditions of a number of tribes from Tanzania. One can't leave the museum without seeing or learning at least one traditional dance. You will partake in traditional dance as an audience but also dress up and learn a new dance.

Evening: Swahili lunch w/ a Famous Chef located off the beaten path

The hum and energy of Dar Es Salaam are just what one would expect from a large city. However, the city also has a softer, soothing side where ocean meets shoreline in beachy bliss. 

A tranquil day awaits you at the beach! Dip your feet in the Indian Ocean & soak in Mama Africa's Sun rays.   Indulge in fresh lobster or fish and chips, washed down with a refreshment of your choice. If the tide is low, snorkeling and various beach activities are available.. 

This morning we departure very early to Dar es Salaam to catch the ferry to Zanzibar (2hours ride).

Zanzibar, also known as Unguja Island, is the main island in the Tanzanian archipelago of Zanzibar. Stone Town, part of Zanzibar City, is an old trade center, with mosques and winding lanes. Located in the Indian Ocean 15 miles off the coast of Tanzania, is a breathtaking spot to escape from the world.

Because of its strategic location along the spice and slave trade routes in the Indian Ocean, Zanzibar has been a stronghold for many countries throughout its history. While in Zanzibar, you will discover the history, art, the music, food and the white sand.

Today we Explore historical sites Stone Town, slave market, local market & shopping or go to prison island. 

Stone Town is known as Mji Mkongwe (Swahili for "old town"), it's the old part of Zanzibar City, the main city of Zanzibar, in Tanzania.  Stone Town is a city of prominent historical and artistic importance in East Africa.  Stone Town was host to one of the world's last open slave markets, presided over by Arab traders until it was shut down by the British in 1873. 

Its architecture, mostly dating back to the 19th century, reflects the diverse influences underlying the Swahili culture, giving a unique mixture of Arab, Persian, Indian and European elements - notably elaborately carved wooden doors with brass studs, a style that originated as a defense against charging elephants.  For this reason, the town was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000.  

Former capital of the Zanzibar Sultanate, and flourishing center of the spice trade as well as the slave trade in the 19th century, it retained its importance as the main city of Zanzibar during the period of the British protectorate.  This is a walking tour. The heart of Stone Town mostly consists of a maze of narrow alleys lined by houses, shops, bazaars and mosques.

Prison Island is Optional Excursion at cost & would require a schedule modification

Located in the Zanzibar Archipelago, Changuu Island, also known as Prison Island, is just off the coast of Stone Town, Zanzibar.  Now a tourist attraction, Prison Island was once a place where slaves were detained and at one point, it also served as a place of quarantine. On one side of Prison Island is a refuge for giant sea tortoises, originally a gift from the Seychelles.  If time allows, snorkeling is available

This morning you return to Dar via Ferry at 12:00. Use your evening to relax or go shopping for last minute souvenirs.
