This was a wonderful experience that would be hard to replicate with any other tour group/company. Our host was very knowledgable and has fostered great connections with the local community, which allowed us to have a more authentic experience. Highly recommend it!

Wonderful Trip! Loved every second of it! I’d suggest 3 things for the future: 1. Our experience manager/translator for the trip was excellent, but I’d suggest having a seperate person for both these jobs. Most people on our trip spoke Spanish so we could ask a lot of questions for ourselves, but I’d imagine if you had a group that was more dependent on the translator, that that person wouldn’t have as much time or the capacity to handle logistics as well. So someone seperate and bilingual for those two things would probably be beneficial in the future. 2. Having a clear way to communicate or donate to some of the communities’ causes, organizations, art, etc. while we’re there or even after we’ve returned home. 3. One of the communities we visited was remote and as a person in public health I want to be cognizant of not bringing any outside diseases to a relatively untouched group of people. Maybe for the future suggest that people who go on the trip get vaccinated for certain viruses and/or tested right before visiting these groups. I’d hate to repeat history by bringing diseases unintentionally that their immune systems might not be equipped to fight off. Overall, this trip was more than I could have imagined! The communities we visited were so warm and inviting and I am super grateful for their hospitality and generosity with their time. The group itself and Diva as the trip organizer had the best attitudes which made for such a good time. The history and culture we learned was so important especially as people of the diaspora. Many people are unaware of the Afro-Mexican existence including Mexicans themselves so being able to not just read about it, but see and hear and understand how similar but different our histories as descendants of African slaves are and to celebrate our resilience was unforgettable. Thanks to Diva and the whole igotyourblack staff for an excellent inaugural trip!
