The Azores, a Portuguese archipelago of nine volcanic islands in the Atlantic Ocean, is a dream destination for travelers seeking unspoiled nature, dramatic landscapes, and authentic culture. Just a short flight from Lisbon, the Azores combine lush greenery, crater lakes, hot springs, black-sand beaches, and whale watching – all with a warm island welcome.
We base in Ponta Delgada and explore the island of São Miguel, where volcanic landscapes meet lush green hills and Atlantic views. São Miguel is the biggest island in the Portuguese Azores archipelago. It’s known for its volcanic scenery, flora and rich marine life, including whales. Ponta Delgada, the capital, is home to the 18th-century City Gates, Gothic St. Sebastian Church and 16th-century Fort of São Brás. The twin crater lakes of Sete Cidades, one green and one blue, lie to the northwest. To the east, Furnas has fumaroles and hot springs.
You’ll discover the dramatic crater lakes of Sete Cidades and Lagoa do Fogo, soak in the hot springs of Furnas and Caldeira Velha, wander tea plantations, and visit charming coastal towns. Between scenic drives and short hikes, enjoy whale watching, natural ocean pools, and fresh Azorean cuisine. This itinerary blends adventure, relaxation, and culture—giving you a complete taste of São Miguel without feeling rushed.
