About this trip

In this 50 hour modules students will explore part one of the art of sequencing, Themes of Katonah yoga, body-weight strength training and conditioning for asana practitioners, functional mobility and so much more. Join master teachers Ari Halbert and Selena Garefino.

Days 1-3 will focus on functional joint mobility, intelligent sequencing anchored in kinesiology and functional anatomy, and advancing your asana.

Day 4 will be taught by Ari Halbert

In this day-long module, we will take a deep dive into functional strength training and how it can benefit us in daily life, other sports activities, and in yoga.  With an emphasis on bodyweight resistance/calisthenics, the techniques used here will help to build strength and mobility in equal amounts, which leads to incredible carryover to all other fields of movement.  While most methods of weight training work to build power within a limited range of motion, we will work to build strength across the widest range of motion possible.  This is a great way to bulletproof the body, reducing the risk of injury and increasing overall physical ability.

During the course of the day, we’ll move fluidly through a concentrated set of exercises and then take the time to dissect each of them one by one.  We will discuss how to safely and effectively incorporate these movement patterns into a yoga practice, and explore how to scale the level of difficulty for students of different levels and abilities.

Day 5 will also be lead by Ari Halbert

Katonah Yoga: Asana as Origami

This workshop will introduce you to the core principals, practices, and philosophy of Katonah Yoga.  From esoteric concepts of Taoism to practical methods of constructing asana as origami, the training will offer tools to refine and reform your yoga practice.

KATONAH YOGA® was founded by Nevine Michaan, and is a Hatha yoga practice refined over forty years, blended with Taoist theory, geometry, pranayama, and meditation. For more information, please visit www.katonahyoga.com

Selena Garefino began practicing yoga when she was 13 years old. Yoga has been and continues to be for Selena, a vehicle for learning to shift from habitual emotional and behavior tendencies towards serving highest possibility. Selena completed her first vinyasa training with Core Power Yoga. She went on to study with Sarah Powers, Melina Meza, Anne Phyfe, Nicolai Bachman, Elena Brower, Douglas Brooks, Rod Stryker, and Noah Mazé. She has studied Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Pre-natal and Postpartum Yoga, Vinyasa, and Hatha Yoga. Selena is dedicated to teaching movement through artful alignment to support her students on and off of their mats. Her classes offer yoga and meditation as a mechanism to shift the way we offer ourselves in all aspects of our lives and as a tool for granting profound healing in our bodies, our hearts, and ultimately our relationships. Selena is a PhD Candidate in South Asian Anthropology. And holds an MPH in International Health.

Every training I feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information presented wondering if I'm going to retain any of it. The next class I teach though, I feel more confident, more present. After every training I feel like I have more to offer my students. That's a feeling you can't buy.

I want to personally thank Selena Garefino for providing an amazing immersive experience. I booked this program not knowing what was involved, nor expecting to ever teach a yoga class, my goal was to grow my personal home practice. Thank you for helping me do that, challenging my comfort zones, and opening my eyes to so much more. I still don't know if I will ever teach a yoga class, but I do know without a doubt that the option is now well within reach. I feel I have only scratched the surface of my yoga journey, so I definitely will be pursuing additional yoga trainings and retreats, as well as different schools of yoga moving forward. On my personal journey of knowledge and self exploration I am beyond grateful to have crossed paths with Selena Garefino and for the opportunity to learn from her and Hali Love. I truly feel blessed to have met both of these amazing women and to have shared this unique experience with a limitless group of women from all over the world.
It was a great training as usual Selena delivered. Space we practiced was lovely. Thanks
Such a great experience. I gained so much knowledge and walked away with tools that I can easily apply in my day to day life and practice. Thank you for time, energy and space.
