Today, we embark on a fascinating journey through the historic streets of Accra, Ghana's bustling capital, where every corner holds a piece of the country's rich cultural heritage.
Our first stop is the renowned W.E.B. DuBois Centre, a tribute to the prominent American Pan-Africanist and civil rights activist. Here, you'll have the opportunity to learn about DuBois's legacy and his contributions to the Pan-African movement.
Next, we'll visit the iconic Independence Arch and Black Star Square, symbolic landmarks that stand as testaments to Ghana's struggle for independence and its commitment to Pan-African unity.
Our tour continues with a visit to the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, dedicated to Ghana's first president and the visionary leader of its independence movement. Explore the museum and mausoleum, where you'll gain insight into Nkrumah's life, legacy, and vision for a united Africa.
After immersing ourselves in Ghana's political history, we'll stop for lunch at a local restaurant indulging in traditional Ghanaian cuisine. After lunch, we will head to the vibrant Makola Market, the largest and busiest market in Accra. Here, you'll have the chance to shop for traditional African fabrics, souvenirs, and local handicrafts while soaking up the sights, sounds, and smells of this bustling marketplace.
As our day draws to a close, we'll explore James Town, a historic neighborhood with some of the oldest buildings from the post-colonial era. Wander through the narrow streets, interact with locals, and marvel at the colorful architecture that defines this vibrant community.
End the day with dinner at your leisure. For those interested in nightlife, please reach out to your host and/or guide who will be able to provide suggestions of the hottest parties around town.
Important Note: Night life is optional and your hosts may or may not partake in night time activities. However, for those interested in the Afrofuture Festival, we will arrange transfer from the hotel to the festival location. Participants will have to arrange their own transportation back, either through Uber or taxi.
