Our spines are naturally flexible, strong and mobile: we have evolved over thousands of years to move freely! Indeed, a healthy spine can access motion in four planes: forward, backward, lateral and through a twist. As the spine moves freely in all four directions, strength, stability, flexibility and mobility are unveiled and cultivated; resulting in increased vibrancy, balance and wellbeing.
In the Method Backbending, we focus primarily on the backward bend motion of the spine and the subsequent enormous front side body opening. The Method, as taught to thousands worldwide by Talia Sutra, offers a powerful and life changing three step approach to safely and correctly initiate, hold and release a backbend.
Talia’s Method removes the fear, apprehension and confusion which usually surround backbending asanas. With clarity and confidence, we are able to strengthen the musculature around the spine, keep it well aligned, stable and pain free.
We realize, through the practice, that all energy: sensations, feelings, thoughts and observations travel in, out and through the spine. Our awareness and connection with it is therefore incredibly transformative on all possible grounds; with tremendous shifts easily felt and witnessed on the physical, emotional and mental fields through practice.
In The Method: Backbending, we learn how to properly align and activate our backbending asanas. We learn to inhabit the body fully. We learn how to properly modify for every stage and every practice and how to continuously build upon and deepen backbending asanas. This program also includes a 3hr anatomy of backbending with Rose Erin Vaughan.
As we strengthen our spines, the front side body opens, and the heart and lungs are less and less crowded. As stagnant energy is flushed out, we feel spacious… The space allows us to see life less personally, and we feel renewed sense of connectivity and creativity. This state of connection with ourselves allows for clearer understanding, articulation and expression of our truth. It is life changing.
The meditation segment of this training is designed to help students create and maintain a daily personal practice through feeling and awareness, some of the same techniques that will be used in the method: backbending portion of the training.
We’ll use the ancient practices of jappa mantra, pranayama, kriya and Vedic meditation to get out of the thinking mind and into the feeling body. Developing a practice will give you the time to be fully present, space to explore your personal potential and the opportunity to confront self-limiting thought patterns.Whether you are a student looking to deepen your practice or a teacher seeking new ways to support your students, this training will give you tools that you can carry with you for the rest of your life.This program is certified through Yoga Alliancefor 30 hours of Continuing Education for those who already hold a 200hr designation.

Naturally, no one books with the intention of canceling or postponing their training, but unexpected things do happen that can be beyond your control.
