Dubbed as ‘the sleeping giant’, do you dare to tackle it! It is without doubt one of the very top true links golf courses in Ireland. It easily stands alongside the two Ulster Royals, Portrush and County Down. The brainchild of Willie Park Jr and Des Giffin, ably assisted by undulating dunes, the run off bunkers, rolling fairways and tricky manicured greens. A ‘true test of golf’ is a much overused phrase, but in this case it is a reflection of the variety and ingenuity of the shots required to get round this masterpiece of a golf course.The views from almost every hole are quite simply, magical. The Atlantic is never very far away and the beauty of the course has to be seen to be believed. It is a treat that will take a very long time, if ever, to fade from the golfers memory. No other Irish course has been graced by so many distinguished players in a rich history encompassing a broad sweep of significant events. It is where Arnold Palmer and Sam Snead successfully followed its serpentine route through classic linkland on their way to victory in the 1960 Canada Cup. These events, along with 19 stagings of the European Tours Irish Open, reflect the quality of a searching examination across the links twenty-seven holes.

The links of The European Club was designed by Pat Ruddy who continues after thirty years 

to calibrate the links to meet the challenges of  the modern game allowing the champions of today 

to express themselves while demanding a cerebral approach for true success.

Year after year the work goes on with Ruddy directing design improvements.  Few golf courses have had such prolonged attention from their designers with Donald Ross at Pinehurst being an obvious equivalent.

The result is probably the best links of them all. Constantly enhanced and fitted to the modern game.

Founded in 1885 by Mr. John Lumsden, The Royal Dublin Golf Club is steeped in golfing history and presents a stern golfing examination on a truly magnificent links course and is widely accepted as one of the greatest links courses in the world. The links was originally designed by H.S.Colt, the world famous golf architect from Sunningdale, and redone by the Irishman Christy O'Connor. The Royal Dublin Golf Club has hosted many Irish championships, starting with the Irish Amateur Open back in 1894. The Royal Dublin Golf Club hosted The Carrolls Irish Open from 1983-1985 with Seve Ballesteros winning in 1983 and 1985 and Bernhard Langer winning in 1984. The Club has also regularly hosted the Irish Amateur Close and the Irish PGA.

Located in the historic Boyne valley region on the East coast of Ireland, this award-winning golf club is extremely well located: 45 minutes from Dublin Airport and less than an hour from Dublin city centre. Furthermore, Belfast International Airport is located approximately 90 minutes away.

Founded in 1892, the club is steeped in history and has attained a reputation for producing some of Ireland’s greatest golfers over the years. In 1938 Golf Architects, Tom Simpson and Molly Gourlay redesigned the course. A par 72, measuring 7,031 yards from the back tees, the championship links is known for providing one of the purest and fairest tests of links golf in the world. For professional golfer and former Ryder Cup Captain Paul McGinley, this is his favourite links course in Ireland, remarking: “It's just a great test. All the holes run in different directions, so you have a different exam paper on each hole”.
