We don’t chase the aurora. We slow down enough that it might find us.
This is an invitation to move at the pace of winter. The Scandinavian concept of hygge (pronounced “hoo-gah”) has no perfect English translation — it is the feeling of coziness, warmth, and unhurried togetherness that arises when you put down the to-do list and simply be present with good company, candlelight, and something warm in your hands. It is a philosophy as much as a feeling, and it will be the undercurrent of everything we do on this retreat.
We begin in the luminous city of Stockholm, settling in and exhaling the rush of getting here. After a good sleep and a day of gentle integration, evening falls, and we practice slow travel in its most beautiful form — boarding the "Polar Express" -- a night train north. Enjoy being wrapped in the dark, rocking gently toward the Arctic Circle as the world outside turns white. We wake up in Kiruna, Sweden: a world blanketed in snow.
In Kiruna, our cozy, snow-surrounded home for four nights hold us in a quiet that most of us have never experienced. Here, time softens. The days are short and luminous. The nights are long and full of possibility.
What Awaits You
Yoga in every form
Movement, breathwork, meditation, and deep Yoga Nidra. Practice is woven through each day at the rhythm of the land. The opposite of power yoga, it's a yoga of arriving in your body and staying there.
Your Polar Flow
Snowshoeing, sliding, polar plunges, marveling at the sculptures of the IceHotel, and long soaks in the hot tub under an open Arctic sky. Rather than enduring the cold, meet it slowly and on your own terms.
Hygge, practiced daily
Warm drinks, candlelit evenings, unhurried meals, and the particular coziness that comes from being cocooned in snow. We will live hygge, not just talk about it.
Chasing the dancing sky
The lights might peek out from your bedroom window. We also travel to Abisko — one of the three clearest aurora corridors in the world — and give the sky every chance to dance. I cannot promise the lights. I can promise the watching.
Sami wisdom
A cultural experience with the Sami people — the indigenous keepers of this land — and their living relationship to the Arctic, its seasons, and its skies.
Stockholm in winter
We close the journey as we began it — in Stockholm, wandering a cozy Christmas market, warm drink in hand, carrying something quieter home.
I cannot promise you the aurora. No one can. But I can promise you four nights of open sky at optimal view times in the optimal viewing location, a body that has rested deeply, and the particular magic of being somewhere so wild and so still that you begin to feel it in yourself.
Embrace the tension between magic and surrender, childlike wonder and the humility of not being in control, all held in cozy warmth. Embrace embodied yoga.
Come unhurried. Leave luminous.
