Tour Volcán Acatenango (2026)

We had a great time on the Coffee & Gastronomic bike tour.  The bikes were nice condition, tho hard to bike on the cobblestones, so make sure you are a solid biker and wouldn't recommend for younger kids as you will also be biking during some dicey traffic.
Diego was a good guide and passionate about what he is showing you and of his community.  The coffee tour was really nice and the snacks and drinks at the market were a good representative of what locals would eat and drink.  Recommended!

Coffee & Gastronomic Bike Tour

Our group and I enjoyed the ATV Tour and the Coffee Bike Tour with CA. Our group was about 12 people. CA made sure to offer many options. We reserved a week ahead and finalized payment when we arrived to Antigua. The tour guides were fun, energetic, and informative. They engaged with everyone in our group. We had different ethnicities, different ages. Everyone left more than happy with the tours. Definitely recommend and will definitely book in the future.

We were very happy that we had opportunities to go with this agency 3times. Everything was perfectly organised, we had absolutely no problem, everything was checked twice and prices are really reasonable...and on the third tour you get discount... Highly recommend 

Shuttle from Antigua to Lanquín

We had a great experience with CA Travelers. We had booked a shuttle service to Atitlán, Panajachel, as well as an Acatenango hike. However, due to an illness, we couldn't do the hike. They were really flexible and instead allowed us to book a 3 day surf camp at El Paredón instead, after they did re-sell our places. They provided transportation, accommodation, and even took special care of our strict dietary needs during those days. We had a blast and can highly recommend them, they provide great service at a great price!

Shuttle from Panajachel to Antigua Guatemala

You guys keep asking for a review so here it is: CA Travellers outsources/combines with other tour groups. We were crammed into a small van, everyone from different companies and paying different amounts. They drive around Antigua for 45 minutes picking ppl up. Everyone agreed this is not a benefit and would rather just meet in one spot. After this it’s about a 1.5 hour drive. The driver went to the wrong parking lot and couldn’t find our hiking guide. Would be nbd but now it’s well over 2 hrs in the sardine van and he’s riding the clutch rocking us back and forth on a hill asking every guy (and girl!?) on the mtn if they are Miguel. 

Hike was ok, steady uphill, 5k round trip. Pretty great views but highly regulated. We leap frogged various groups just to be passed again. Possibly too much time near the top (you don’t summit anything) as the lava flows are done for now. The marshmallow thing seemed to be a waste of time, probably was cool a few years ago. 

Reaching the base and end of the hike now our hiking guide can’t find our driver. He frantically calls him for 20 mins just to find out the driver was sleeping in the parking lot. Other travellers let him have it. He is pissed he couldn’t sleep bc we have to pick up the ATV ppl he dropped off and they aren’t ready. Did I mention they pick up and drop off others along the way? So we waited freezing cold for the driver to finish his nap and go wait on other people from a totally different trip then drive 1.5hrs back to Antigua. 

The only smart thing was this time he was going to drop us at a central location. Only before he can do that someone demands to be let out at the edge of the city bc they’re so over it. Much to the driver’s dismay, we all hopped out and walked! 

The hike was ok but the logistics were a nightmare for something so simple. Won’t be repeating. 

Pacaya Volcano Tour

Had an awesome time! There are guides for every pace so I always felt comfortable. Plenty of breaks and big portions to enjoy. Donations go to the local school, which is great. The guides were attentive and caring, at no point did I feel unsafe as a solo traveler. 

Absolutely amazing! The price you pay includes everything which makes things so easy and convenient! The quality of the tour is exceptional- this means the friendly staff at the office when enquiring, the gear you borrow if needed, the food- top notch, delicious and sufficient! Three liters of water in a camelback was included and convenient. The accommodation at the base camp exceeded my expectations because of the small 2 person cabins with full plexiglass panels for unobstructed views, sleeping bags, pillows and thick mattresses were already at the top! The guides and our host Leo were awesome fun people! Porters were organized for anyone choosing to make use of, which I highly recommend getting these wonderful local people to help out so you can more easily enjoy the trek! The only comment I have for our tour is that we left late from the supply centre and ended up starting our hike 2 hours late! That meant arriving at the top around 5pm which did not allow for any rest and recovery for those wanting to hike Fuego. That was unfortunate and I hope CA Travelers will be more aware of the timing so future trekkers have the best experience possible! Thanks everyone!! 💖🤩🌋

Fast, efficient and comfortable. I would have liked being dropped off closer to my hotel  but it was within walking distance. Definitely a great price for the service! Thanks!!

Shuttle from Antigua to Leon (Nicaragua)

It was a very nice trip for us and a once in a lifetime experience. Two improvements why I wouldn't recommend CA travelers to other people: 
- Don't mention in the brochure that it's a good idea to take snacks for dogs. We did, but one of the staff/porter was catapulting a dog like it was completely normal (he had a catapult with him). We don't understand why he had to do this because the dog was very nice. 
- The staff was not taking care of people who were feeling really bad. And they lost two people in the group and the guy abandoned us as well. At the beginning they told us there was always someone behind us but this was really not the case. 

Excellent tour - the people, guides and porters were all lovely, enjoyed the hike and thought we were kept safe at all times. Food was great, but the back office was not good at communicating in general and didn’t communicate to their own team my dietary requirements or that we had reserved backpacks. Thought the cabins were tiny but comfortable enough for one night with our sleeping bags and liners. 

We had a nice time, although in our opinion the boat on lake was going too fast, we didn’t have a chance to enjoy the volcanos views around nor take pictures. 

Lake Atitlán Tour from Antigua

Carlos and team were unbelievable on our hike to Acatenango - food, company and views were brilliant! Would recommend.  

We've really enjoyed our trip, we felt well taken care of, safe & well informed at every step! One thing that I'd change is an earlier departure: the equipment distribution process takes so much time; to me it seems like a waste to wake up at 6am to hit the trail at 12ish... I think we should be given all the gear the day before in the evening, everyone is anyway in Antigua. Then everyone comes to the breakfast all packed, we just get the lunch boxes and are on our way. This way we could be at the base camp much earlier, rest properly for 3h, and then whoever wants to - do the Fuego hike. Otherwise going for the Fuego trail after just a short break is exhausting. Also, the fire at camp: would be nice to find a way to reorganize the camp and incorporate the fire more into group's life, so e.g. everyone could sit at the fire and watch Fuego (I think this was the case at Soy Tours when my friend did a hike with them). Otherwise, no complaints:)

Started our hike a little after noon.  Unless you could do the hike in the minimum time frame, you don’t make it in time to make the second hike to view fuego, and if you did there was zero time to rest between hikes.  Found out at the top that the hike is normally oversold and they had sold my cabin to others and put me in a cabin with another hiker who had an extra bed.  
Everyone was at the meeting place on time.  One (1) very wordy guy handling the entire process.  After stopping at a second location for supplies (and food — I’m guessing 5 lbs of food, such as unrefrigerated chicken we were afraid to eat after hours in our packs) that consisted of random completely worn out gear, we got a 45 minute political speech with dramatic tears at the end followed by a collection of funds in a hat ending at the third stop. 
We were dropped at a second equipment place to rent more equipment (poles, etc) and find what seemed like exploited indigenous labor who would porter for us, and lead us in our hike.  The bathroom there was an additional 5qz. They proceeded to then drive our group up the hike like cattle at record speed to make the second hike. We took our time hiking as we weren’t there to create a record or to just check a box, but for a once in a lifetime experience.  We had one in our group who needed medical attention who returned to the trailhead and sent back in a taxi at their own expense.  When we arrived at the shack at the base camp we were told that the group to fuego left immediately after the first group arrived.  Had the hike left on time we would have made it.  I was then directed to a cabin to share (contigo) with another camper, not the cabin I had originally paid for. When I asked, I was told that they planned on some not making the hike and oversold cabins so they would be full.  If I insisted they would evict the campers from my cabin and put them with other campers??? I stayed put, staying with a random stranger, but not really what I felt like I paid for.  Equipment at the top was definitely not a -6° sleeping bag, so glad I packed extra clothes and snacks.  The bread they had packed looked like a tortilla after being smashed in my bag for a few hours. If better informed, I would definitely just use my own equipment and meals.
    Watching the volcano erupting all night is definitely worth the climb, but I would definitely pay more and choose a different guide service that could deliver an enjoyable experience.
In addition to what they tell you in the brochure for the additional hike, equipment rental, and porters— Take money for the restroom, tips for the driver, the guy checking you in, the porter, and the 5 person crew herding you up the volcano. 
I never received any of the promised photos and videos, but there was a starting and ending photo, seems like once they got your money the communications just stopped.

Un tour único e inolvidable! Los guías son muy amables, pacientes, y  profesionales. Lo único que no fue agradable son los baños, se que los recursos arriba no son muchos pero creo que podrían mejorar. 
CA travelers te da lo necesario para no pasar frío y la comida está muy bien.

Mochila en Renta

If you are an experienced or fast hiker, I highly recommend finding some other agency that takes smaller groups.

CA Travelers group was very big, with 32 guests. So we went very slow up to the campsite. I was among the fastest hikers, so my moving time was 2 hours while total time was 5.5 hours. Nothing ever happened on time. They said we would leave for Fuego at 5pm, we actually left an hour later, and were one of the last groups to get there. We were going up Fuego in pitch dark, and the lady guide for that part of the hike was too slow herself and took way too many breaks. At the campsite, they clubbed 4 of us solo travelers into one cabin, which was very cramped, and not a good experience. They give you too much food to carry. Most people threw out half their lunch. I had a great time chatting with guide Audi, and thanks a lot to him for showing me how to come down from Acatenango summit to the campsite next morning. Even the climb to Acatenango which was supposed to start at 4am, was delayed half an hour. So, the punctual ones among us, who woke up at 3:30 were left to wait an extra half hour in the cold.

Driver was great, and fun to talk to. Communicated well with me before pickup on WhatsApp. But as I said in my review on CA Travelers shuttle from Panajachel to Antigua, this private transfer to the airport was unnecessary. They told me there was no direct shuttle from Panajachel to the airport, so I had to switch at Antigua, and since I got there around 8pm, I had to take an expensive private transfer to the airport. The folks at the CA Travelers office failed to mention to me that other agencies did have direct shuttles from Panajachel to the airport. Shame on me for not doing my research thoroughly.

Private Transportation Guatemala City / Airport

Good experience. Didn't really need a guide. Just needed transportation to and from the hike. The guide didn't do any explaining at all. The hike itself is pretty straightforward.

Mayan face

The trip itself was good. I was picked up from the Socialtel Hotel a bit after the scheduled time of 4pm, and reached Antigua around 7:30pm as expected. What I didn't like was that when I booked this at the CA Travelers office in Antigua, I had specifically asked them if I could take a direct shuttle from Panajachel to the Airport instead, and they told me this wouldn't be possible. What they failed to mention was that even though they didn't have a direct shuttle, lots of other agencies did. Shame on me for not doing thorough research myself. I was very disappointed when I walked around Panajachel that day and saw that so many had 4pm departures for the airport. So I ended up taking CA Travelers shuttle to Antigua, then since it was late at night, their private transfer to the airport, so hooray, lots of revenue for them, but unnecessary expenditure for me.

Hicimos el trekking al volcán Acatenango con CA Travelers  y fue una experiencia simplemente increíble. Desde el inicio se notó la organización, el profesionalismo de los guías y el cuidado constante por el grupo. ⛰️

El ascenso fue exigente, pero siempre estuvimos acompañados, bien informados y motivados. En el campamento, la logística fue excelente y la vista del volcán de Fuego en plena actividad fue algo que nunca voy a olvidar.🌋

We cannot recommend CA Travelers enough! My girlfriend and I used them for the Acatenango hike and we so happy we did. Our guide Marvin was incredibly kind, funny, and knowledgeable. The food was great especially for such a tough hike, and the smoothie at the end was delicious and a great refresher. The cabins were nice with perfect views of fuego. It seems like the cabins were nicer than several of the nearby camps. If you are looking for a company for Acatenango, you can’t go wrong with CA.

Positive points :

The staff at the Antigua agency were very welcoming, flexible, and genuinely kind. The reception and communication at the agency level were clearly a strong point of the experience.

Points that need improvement :

Unfortunately, the shuttle service itself was disappointing. The departure was delayed by more than 30 minutes, without clear explanation. More importantly, the driver’s behavior on the road felt inappropriate and, at times, dangerous, which made us feel unsafe during the journey.

In addition, the van was overcrowded, with around ten passengers inside, and the seats were very small. We were tightly packed, with very limited space, which made the trip uncomfortable and far from the level of comfort one would expect from a tourist shuttle service.

Overall, while the agency staff were excellent, the transportation service itself clearly needs improvement in terms of punctuality, driving safety, and passenger comfort

You can never influence the weather, but we were pretty lucky and always had a clear view!
What you can influence is the surroundings, but honestly, I wouldn’t change a thing.

The guides were super nice! (Special thanks to Audi, who stayed with me when I was walking slower than the rest of the group, and to all the other guides who adapted to my pace!)

The food was good too (there was a vegan option), and although the cabins were small and cold, it was absolutely fine and completed the experience perfectly.

I had a lot of fun and would definitely do it again with CA Travelers. It’s totally worth the money!

The crew was super nice and we felt very taken care of. The food was also very good! The hike was very tough but the group makes you push through it and it was worth every second. We would definitely recommend CA :)

It’s a great experience, the guide was very kind,  he taught us a lot of knowledge about the history and manufacturing process of coffee. The food and drinks that we tried in the tour were also amazing, the flavor was very unique. I would definitely recommend everyone who came to Antigua to spend some time to join this tour.

I had a great time. The guides were knowledgeable and super kind. There were enough guides to accommodate all fitness levels - nobody ever hard to walk alone in the back or front. The food was delicious and enough for the trip. The basecamp is clean, and comfortable, but it’s indeed very very cold. It’s recommendable to bring several layers including winter jacket and hat. The organization was also super smooth, the equipment that I borrowed was in good shape and the camelpack was super helpful to stay hydrated. Our guide, Leo, gave as a short historic overview of guatemala during the busride which I particularly appreciated. 

Also there seems to be a new way up the volcano which apparently is a bit easier then the known one. 

Unfortunately, we were put on a Spanish tour even though we booked the tour in English. Thankfully, Hector, our Spanish guide, was able to find an English tour departing at the same time, so we were moved to that one. It was incredible! The sights, the culture, the information. The boat ride across the lake was bumpy, but we had a laugh. 

Leo was our guide and he was a blast. The accommodations at base camp were cozy. Overall the experience of a lifetime.

Antigua Foodie Bike Tour

Excellent service. I did the acatenango tour with them. Awesome experience. Wilson was very friendly. I love also that they serve a purpose of giving back to the community by helping local schools develop. Highly recommended.

30 minutes late but then comfortably got us there.

First of all Marvin is the man. Looked after us in every regard and made us feel supported throughout this very challenging hike. We witnessed a bunch of other companies leaving their people behind and generally making their people feel unsupported. All of our guides were the epitome of professional and allowed people of all abilities get to our destination. Food was great and the team moral was built and fostered by the guides. Only thing I would change is the gear. Bring your own winter coat if you have it, and my lamp came undone on my head when going up fuego. Guide had my back though and coached my wife through some challenging terrain. Would love an upgrade of these elements. Otherwise CA is the top company to go with if you have the chance. This hike is once in a lifetime. 

I would definitely book a trip to Acatenango with them again.  Everything went smoothly.  Logistics worked very well, they provide really good and generous meals.  And the best part of all:  The warmth it their crew.  The guides were always nice and patient.  Lorena one of our guides was just a lovely person

Going with CA Travelers was amazing. Good group size, great food, friendly and knowledgeable tour guides, it's a tough hike but worth the views and an unforgettable experience. I felt even if someone struggled they had you covered and were patient with each and everyone. Our group was very fit so there was no waiting for the last ones nor many pauses. This was the most amazing trip! CA Travelers took care of everything we could have needed. The guides were amazing, the food was incredible, we slept in super comfortable little cabins, and I felt safe and supported the whole time! Would HIGHLY recommend booking with CA travelers for Acatenango. 

Very happy with my choice to go with CA Travelers! We had such a fun group of people, the guides were knowledgeable and really cared for the people who struggled more during the hike or who suffered from altitude sickness, and there are vegetarian options for the food which is a big plus. The material you can borrow (winter jacket, gloves, sleep liner etc) is really good quality, which you’ll need up there! Overall really good experience, thank you all!

My sister and I went to hike Acatenango and Fuego Volcano, the staff was super friendly from the first moment, from the cafeteria lady to the guides and everyone involved in the process. Food is amazing and so is the accommodation. CA Travelers had everything we needed included in the package which is great. We will definitely be booking again 

I was happy with being able to contact CA Travelers prior to my pick up date because I had to be relocated to a different hotel due to a power outage at my original hotel in Monterrico. There were 3 of us at the same hotel returning to Antigua. We were picked up in a car, which then after about 45 minutes driving, met up with a shuttle bus coming from El Paradon. Ok, no worries… except the only space left on this 30 person shuttle were 3 fold down 1/2 sized seats in the aisle!! Wasn’t impressed with this situation as I paid full price for my ticket and would not have agreed to that price had I known the circumstances. We were also dropped off a little farther from the Central Park than I expected, and it was already dark upon arrival. Not ideal. 

Shuttle from Monterrico to Antigua

Great time - booked CA Travelers for the acatenango hike (per recommendations) and couldnt have been happier! Then, I had to book last minute for an airport shuttle the next morning and called them to assist - they were fast, friendly, and affordable ($15.50 for a ride back to airport from Antigua). They have many options for when to ride the shuttle and they assist you with your bags. The service is door service from your place of stay. 

Our hike was incredible- we had options of porters (didnt use, but incredible), great meal options, and the tour guides are all friendly and fun. They truly have passion for what they do. We did the hike to base camp (probably one of the best stays available for the mountain) and also added on fuego (Q200 more, paid right before you do it) and sunrise summit (included). Our tour guides really cared about us, making sure we all were safe and stayed as a pack (we all went about same fast pace, but they space you out according to your comfort level, if needed!). Provide you with jacket, gloves, hat, boots, water/bladder, lunch kit with meals packed, backpack, headlight etc. as needed - you can pick several items and others are a small additional price. English/spanish speaking. An amazing time we had (i went solo and met many others - couples, solo, etc)!

The tour was amazing and super well organised- if I were to hike up Acatenango again I would do it with CA travellers again!

WEATHER When dealing with the climate in the Acatenango volcano, is something very difficult to predict because it is a rainy subtropical forest. (This does not mean that it will always rain, in contrast, it depends a lot on the season) RESERVATIONS We have 3 options for you to book with us.
